    80 in/lbs or 7 ft/lbs for reference.

Careful on the RTV too. You don't want it "pillowing" out into the sump.
Run a very thin bead down the center and around the bolt holes and bolt it up.
Inspect carefully, and if you see any RTV being squeezed out, it is likely being squeezed out on the inside as well. Remove the pan and start over.

Thanks for everyones help, about to get under way, but one more question.

After I get the pan off and clean it really well, how long should I wait to reapply the pan? Does the pan need to sit overnight to assure no simple green is still present, or a thorough wipe down with a dry clean shop towel, then set it and forget it?

I know any oil will disrupt the bond/adhesiveness of the seal, but I wasn't sure about the cleaner.

So when you say rinse, is it okay to introduce water to the pan as long as it is dry?

Okay, so it appears my repair was successful, however it also appears Rich was right. Oil is leaking from underneath the black cap on this picture. It is on the engine but it is right where the engine is connected to the tranny. This is where I will hang up my mechanics gloves and let someone who really knows what they are doing take over. Before doing that, any thoughts so I don't get taken to the cleaners? Is this something I should keep in eye on?

    Things to know:
    1. Although it appeared progressive at first, it is a slow leak.
    2. Truck seems to be driving fine.
    3. When removing the black cap, it is pretty clean as far as I can see, however after sitting you will a while you can see a drip.

I'll try and get better pics.

That will most likely be the rear main seal. And if it is the rear main seal it is a big job involving removing the transmission from the motor.

I would recommend taking it to a dealer and have a tech inspect it and find out what the other leak may actually be..

Would you recommend trying a stop leak treatment first, since it is a seemingly minor leak?

Question, did you clean all of this very well after doing the repair, and it started showing signs of leaking again? Just being sure because a leak can blow backwards and make something else look like it was leaking. If it is oil, and coming from that area, then yeas, you are most likely looking at a rear main seal. As mentioned, take it to a qualified shop and have them check it out. Good luck.

    Nevernevernevernever....

    Radiator or crankcase.... never.

    Oil in the crankcase
    Coolant in the radiator
    Fuel in the fuel tank

Anything else will do more harm than good.
