Like the title says how well do the sports do off road with out the locker. What mods would decrease the chances of getting stuck. I'm buying a winch and lift kit / tires.

Couple of my 4x4 buddies are going on a moderate trail nothing to major lot of dirt and some mud. Is the sport capable of mild to moderate with out a locker? Or will I be that guy that has to be pulled out every few min

With some decent all terrains or mud tires you should be alright. I made it through some mud holes in my prerunner that were deep enough to have water come through the doors. Took it like a champ. Just make sure before you go at it, get some recovery gear. It could never hurt. I always at least have a recovery strap, my smittybuilt recovery receiver, and a bully cinch bone before I attempt anything too crazy.

You have mechanical LSD and that's..... OK. Any time you get off camber and a rear wheel off the ground you will be screwed though. This is when slight pressure to the brake comes in to play. You should, in time, be able to apply the brake and transfer the power. It will take some practice. The other keys to the game are learning your trucks limits and having good friends to help you out when you forget them :D

I typically spend 99% of my time offroad in 2wd. The other 1% is stuck in 4wd :D

If I were you I would:
*Get a safe front recovery point (not TRD hook of death)
*Get the best style tire for your local terrain and air down.
*Take the winch money and get a ARB RD-129 with air compressor.
*Invest in about 60' of good tow strap.
*Invest in a 60" high lift with winch kit.

You just need to remember that if you get a locker you lose the LSD and will be open unless locked. IMO A locked truck is not as good on the slick stuff (SNOW) as LSD. That said being locked would be key for me in a 2wd.
