Yes...this is true because you are standing still. They will not 'orientate' properly while standing still. Once you start moving.....it understands where you are and will route accordingly.

Just start moving....and it'll get on track.

Don't forget.... When you are in a city with a lot of buildings, the signal can sometimes be bouncy - especially while you're sitting still.

I currently have a Garmin. No problems in 2 years. I bought a Garmin for each of my 2 kids, no problem. I had a Tom Tom that pooped out after a year.

I got a Tom Tom OneXL as a gift a few years ago. I guess I'm lucky, never really had any problems. :notsure:

I had a megellan and a garmin. Both I used on cross country road trips...subtle differences with the two, but very close. I tend to like the megellan better, but I don't think you'll go wrong with either.

I was wondering if any of the manufacturers had a mount that plugged into the power out let. I want an aftermarket GPS but hate all the cord fiasco to deal with

Man...that is AWESOME. Perfect location and it looks like it should be there!

Running a smart phone with GPS has worked well for me, and I figure since my provider offers a phone upgrade every two years for free - that its a good way to stay on top of the latest and greatest.

My phone, Droid Bionic, using google maps and it's navigation program. Works great, does all of the features people have mentioned previously. Only draw back with the smartphones is you need a data cell phone signal to calculate directions and pull up a map, unless they're maps/directions you've saved to you phone. I have 2 mounts, a windshield and a mount that clips into the air vent. During the summer, if I use the windshield mount and the phone is in thesun, the battey heats up and it won't hold a charge, even when plugged in. The vent clip mount lets the AC keep it cool so you don't have this problem.

Verizon/Motorolla makes a few windshield mounts specific for diffenent phone models. Mine, the Droid Bionic, has a mount which you can plug into an outlet, making it a mount and a charging base.
I also had this for a while, and just mounted the unit on the dash behind the phone mount. Obviously won't charge at night, but the unit has a battery that stores a charge and when fully charged, would charge a fully dead phone battery about 50%. Also has a plug so you can charge the battery in it off the micro USB plu of your cell phone.

Well worth the bucks if you plan to put into severe service. My Zumo 550 has seen many off road miles exposed to the elements and more crashes on my dual sport than I care to remember. Works well in BluTaco also. Wish it had a bigger screen like the 660's but not worth the trade up price to me.

I have a simple Garmin 255w that my girlfriend bought me for Christmas about 2-3 years back. RARELY have any problem with it. Only issue I have on occasion (like once every 25 trips) is that it will tell me there is a road when there isn't. No big deal just drive another minute and it fixes your route in 99% of cases, and that probably is a problem for any GPS. My 255w sometimes takes a minute to search for satellite, but that is usually lack of me moving. Once you start moving it is ready to roll.

Thanks for the response. I am still rocking the original iPhone and feel an upgrade coming soon.

If you have a Costco nearby, check them out there or online. You have 90 days full refund on return. By a month, you ought to know if you like or not.

I have a Garmin 2460, larger screen, free updates, traffic info in many urban areas, and can change voices.
