Lousy design. I would never use the Toyota shield. Who ever thought up that design should be out of work. For 50 bucks, get rid of it and get a good one.

I have the AVS that looks like the one pictured above and that one looks to have minimal potential (if any) to do any damage.

Hood down and the bug guard only rest on the rubber, not on the grille itself.

On the inside I am able to fit my hand in there to clean. Even when it flexes in the wind it doesn't touch the hood.

Hey Bones--Be sure to let us know about your shield when it comes in. I want to hear how it goes. I need one, too. This looks like the best candidate. Amazon has 'em about the same price.

Hey Paul, I'll do just that. Looks like I'll be receiving it sometime early next week. More posts & pics to come. Later.

I've noticed that some Tacomas have more clearance between the leading edge of the hood and the grill/headlights. It looks like there is about 1/4" or so of clearance in these pics but I only have about 1/16" of clearance, too small for anything to fit between, unless it's paper-thin.

I was thinking about either trying to adjust my grill forward a little or my hood back a little but I have not taken the time to do it yet. Since I have the scoop, I'm thinking that the front may look too busy with a deflector anyway, tho.

If i had the hood, i would look into the feasibility of color matching the bugshield to make it look like less of an add on. The shield does kind of have that Frito Bandito look with a scooped hood. I don't know how hard it would be to get paint to stick to such a flexible piece.

A lot the same guys that complain about the paint chipping are guys who remove the mudflaps, etc for 'looks'. Some don't seem to grasp that the front (others) is subject to road debris as is the lower sides of the truck without flaps. A vehicle with all the paint chips doesn't look better than one without. It just looks older and worn.

    1. Easy to install: uses spread-type screw in existing holes.
    2.Actually looks pretty-good...
    3.Feels durable w/ a bit of flex.
4.Again, not as bad as I thought (looks)
...and now, a tip or two...
the connectors have a shallow Phillips-head screw (I mean the cutout in the head is shallow, not the screw length) so, flatten the tip of your screwdriver w/ a file to get full contact (so as not to strip the head). Also, work from the center out b/c, you might have to flex the shield a little to get it to match up w/ the holes. Sorry no pics tonight, I'll try to post some tomorrow. All in all, I'm very pleased so far. I'll also let you guys know how it is under driving conditions.

...I do not think it would look good w/ a scooped hood. The reason is it screams "My scoop is fake!", b/c it actually defeats the purpose of a scoop by deflecting the air over the it's entrance. So if I were you, I'd see about making the scoop functional or at least use it to get some extra airflow under the hood. Come to think of it, I believe 3M makes a clear film that covers the entire windshield for added rock protection.

First day driving w/ the new shield: No problems to speak of. Had her up to about 70mph and so far no shake, raddle or roll. Even over the bumps it looked stiff and solid. I'll get pics up by the weekend at the latest, I know how you guys love your pics. I almost forgot, b/c it's 'smoked', your able to see thru it. For you guys that paint the inside of it to match body color, the ht. of it might throw off judging distance. Meaning if your parking head-on to another car/truck, the front end will look closer than you really might be. Does that make sense to anyone?

Thanks Bones. This is going on my Birthday list for the wife. I'm not really a fan of screens, but my windows take a beating and that annoys me.

It uses the existing holes on the underside of the hood.
