I like my short bed, but my dad insisted on using his nissan the other day because he had a 6' to put the dog cage we were picking up. That didn't sit well w me. I think the 6' beds look funny so Ill probably just go with a bed extender when needed.

I’m like 5’8” and 123 and i can’t even sit in the back seats of a AC for more than 5 min.
i can see if you do construction and stuff dally that the LB is needed.

I use my bed few times a week, but not for big items everything fits just fine!

for me i may only need a bigger bed a hand full a times a year at the most, and half of those time the LB would not be big enough. so for me it’s easier to just have the SB and use a trailer when needed or dads truck.

Parking a short or long bed should be the same............it is only 12" of difference, not that hard to do.

It was only a matter of time until we started calling each other vaginas, really.

Thanks! Yeah I had to comb craigslist for a while, because all the new bed extenders from amp research are all pointy and dumb looking. Found this one local, BNIB, for 75 bucks! Would have preferred black, but hey.

bed is only 12”. think the wheel base on SB is 127 and on the Lb it’s 146 or something.

wheel base is what plays a roll in turning radius and parking more than over all length.

    Thank you

If you have issues with parking a DCLB , that is driver error

Personally, I have the SB & it has been fine for me & what I needed it for. I have my truck lifted & think the SB looks great lifted. Not once at this point have I regretted not having the LB. I have needed the tailgate down in a few occasions to give me a bit more room hauling a couch or w/e but I've also hauled quite a bit of firewood with the tailgate up with no issues. Obviously, having an extra foot of space could do nothing but help you but I don't feel it's detrimental in my needs of a truck at all whatsoever.

I have the short bed and appreciate the ease of parking and better driveability of the shorter wheelbase. I've addressed my less frequent need to carry large loads buy using the open tailgate with a nice bed extender. Here are some pictures to show why I have no regrets!

My custom version of the bed extender:

I've carried A LOT of big stuff in my truck and very often; including a 12 foot boat in the bed! Yes it would have been nice to have a long bed at times but I've always been able to manage perfectly fine. Would I buy a LB next time around? Don't know yet.

I have moved a love seat and a couch at the same time in my short bed Taco. No problemo.. couch first, throw the love seat on top of the couch upside down and then strap the works down.

I have never wished I had gotten the long bed...camping gear, hunting gear, 4wheeler, whatever.. I find enough room and strap it all down if above the bed cover.

The short bed just looks better to me.

I got the short bed. I was offered the long bed but I told them "Hell No!" If I really needed bed space, I would have picked up the Tundra. I don't plan hauling much stuff anyway. Maybe a Segway or a cooler. But nothing that would need a long bed.

PS. If someone is gonna suggest I should have bought a 4Runner instead. Well I has one.

OP, A bed extender is a great way how to make a 5' bed more useful for fairly cheap. It may not work the best for every project, or in your case, but for me it was one of the best accessories I bought. It takes 5 seconds to remove from the bed and when flipped it is a great way to carry groceries so they don't slide all the way to the front of the box. I usually carry my kayaks resting on top of the extender overhanging the tailgate by a couple feet with a red flag attached. :)

I came from a fullsize truck with 6.5" bed and at work almost all trucks have 8' bed so it took a while to get used to and I sort of regreted it for some time, but than I remembered I did not buy this truck for serious work, but for a DD and a recreational vehicle. A 6MT DCLB 4x4 would have been a truck I would have chosen if they made one.

Thule XSporter rack, here are some random pics I quickly googled with DCSB and that rack mounted.

I love my short bed cause I can park it inside the garage. And IMO the long beds look funny.

Satoshi'd grill. blacked out badges. aftermarket sound system. De-chromed and color matched. OME 885s + Dakars with 3rd leaf removed. LR UCAs. Scs stealth 6 with 285 duratracs. BAMF sliders
I have those racks, they are pretty awesome. I cut the bottoms so i can set them below the roof line when im not hauling. I have a long bed but i have a toolbox so the racks are very helpful. Just brought my sliders home last night on them
