I'm looking for some help. I know this topic has been discussed a lot but I can't seem to find a solution that works on my truck.

I just got this truck, 2006 TRD SR5 Xtra Cab M/T Tacoma and it has some type of security system. It has the Toyota theft deterrent system sticker on the windows.

The trouble is that it honks the horn when I lock and unlock the door, both with the remote and with the inside door lock. I want it to stop. I have researched several methods and none of them work for me.

Here is what I know so far:

If I turn the key on and back off and push the red security button to the left of the steering column the light will light up solid. In this "mode" the horn does not honk when locking or unlocking the door. The system seems to stay in this "mode" even when the key is turned back on. Only trouble is the red light is on all the time and I'm assuming the alarm is not working (not that I really care, the light is annoying however).

The system seems to respond to the method of turning the key on waiting 10+ secs then off and pressing the red light/button 3 to 6 times (the number of times varies depending on what you read). This will cause the system to honk the horn twice quickly. About 10-20 seconds later this is followed by a long honk. Nothing changes with the door lock/honk problem.

I'm not sure what system my be in this truck. It uses the Toyota remotes for the keyless entry.

Any help would be great. I've been searching all over the place and have found a lot good info but none is working for me.

    Thanks

It's basically something like this IIRC

Unlock your door. Then lock it. Then unlock it. Then lock it. Then open it. Then realize it's locked. Then unlock it. Then buckle your seatbelt at the exact time as you lock it again and push the TPMS reset button, then hold down the odometer button and rev the truck to 3200rpm, then shut it off, then lock it, then unbuckle the seatbelt.

I did it.. but I did it a little different.. you can pop the speaker and disconnect the wires on the speaker and then no matter what it won't come back.. ( option in thread comes back after battery reconnections)

I don't have a beep or chirp. Its the horn. I probably can't modify it and have it work properly.

Is your keyless entry stock or aftermarket? A stock one has its own "horn" that sounds more like a chirp. If it is the horn, you either had an aftermarket or someone re-did the wiring to get the horn to beep.

I called the dealership today. Service manager says that its aftermarket as Toyota security only chirps...Somehow it uses the Toyota key fob though. I'll have to search the cab for the control box to get the manufacturer.

My 06 from SoCal (Longo Toyota) came from the factory with a aftermarket alarm that works off the OEM fob. The control box by the FCC id is a Code alarm. It is stuffed in the drivers kick panel. There's a couple of threads that explain how to program the horn honking. Not sure if that's what model you have.
I had some issue's with the alarm also with resetting the horn after a battery change.

    othater-
Where can I find the threads for this alarm system because I have a 2003 Tacoma 4 dr model and the loud horn honk(not the factory beep)when using the fob and want it to be stopped. It is an after market alarm installed with immobilizer. The truck was written off within the last year, I repaired and reregistered it. The battery was disconnected, the front grill, lights, bumper and horn wiring removed and reinstalled plus both frt doors removed and reinstalled(passenger door replaced) for repairs. Since then the horn honks when using the fob to lock and unlock the doors as if I honked the horn(loud). Any ideas how to reset to not honk when the fob is used?
