Tailgate year change?

My truck is an 05 with the weak tailgate. What year did toyota reinforce the tailgate? There is one for sale locally, but im not sure if its the stronger one....

As far as I know the changes were internal. I would PM Chris4x4. He's a good guy to ask.

This answer is speculation and maybe some one can confirm.
Redline Tuning sells an "EZ Down" Piston to lower your tailgate slowly.
It is compatible with '05-'07 (IIRC), though members have made it work on newer models.
The Pistons adapted to the newer models have a "Space" issue fitting in with tailgate cable.
The Piston installs with the upper cable attachment and secures at the bottom to the hinge plate.
This has always indicated to me that the ends of the tailgate changed between the '07 & '08 Models.
The ends would be the portion not visible from inside or outside with the tailgate closed.
If you know someone with a '08+, compare it to yours or compare yours to the one for sale.
