The stock tires seem ok. Should I replace?

It came with these dunlop 265/65/17. I know they dont LOOK as badass as other tires, but I took them up to the mountains and used 4wd in the snow and I felt perfectly fine.

I am not going to go "offroading" in my truck. I will take it to the desert, I will take it to the snow. but the whole purpose is getting to/from my destination, not fun offroading stuff.

My tires are brand new, the fronts still have the little mold stick thingees coming off of them. I thought maybe I could sell them, but I dont even know what for... New tires like BFG A/T in like 265/70/17 are probably like $180 a piece + mounting/balancing tax. I just dont know if it is financially worth it for me to scrap these new tires for that. I will probably get worse MPG right? What about these stock Dunlops will not work for ME?

Help me decide what to do...

Get rid of those stock tires ASAP! Put some Duratracs or BFG AT's on there. Owning a Tacoma with factory tires is a sin.

I know everyone on here loves bigger and badder tires but speaking from my personal experience The stock at20's on my 2011 never left me stranded when I went off-roading or through 15+ inches of snow.

Wagon wheels are better than the stock tires! +1 on the Duratrac's

when the time comes to buy new tires, I'll buy the right tires for the job. I may even consider a little bit of a lift, or not...

But yeah, I am just trying to determine if I need to get rid of these now. Also, if anyone has ever sold theirs that are nearly new, and how much $ you can expect to get for them?

Satoshi'd grill. blacked out badges. aftermarket sound system. De-chromed and color matched. OME 885s + Dakars with 3rd leaf removed. LR UCAs. Scs stealth 6 with 285 duratracs. BAMF sliders
If you don't need them then don't waste your money. If you only do real mild offroading and you don't need the added traction then why buy new tires, doesn't seem like you are to concerned with looks of the tire either so keep them until you need new ones. Mpg loss probably wont be noticeable if you stay with stock size and switch to a set of ATs. Put that many into something else maybe.

If they work for you, no harm in keeping them. I kept my stock Deulers for 55k because they worked fine for what I needed them for.

some of this, a little of that

I think you kind of answered your own question. If they are working for you then stick with it, don't spend the money if you don't have to right now. When they either wear down or piss you off change them then. I got over 30K on mine before I finally changed them.

seems like if you run them out your truck will be broke in, then put better tires on mpg would be close to the same.

I agree with you and the others on here. I think I can try to tolerate the look for 30k or more miles, then replace with better tires. Gives me time to think this over too and put $ in the bank. the 2013 nut was big and I'm feeling it for a bit :)

    Thank you everyone.

Aggressive tread patterns tend to be a hindrance in sand and snow. All terrains are about as aggressive as you will want to go for this type of terrain. I think you are making a wise choice by not throwing your money away on different tires when the ones you have are brand new still.

    not going off roading..

so why would you want new tires anyways. those tires you have would be nice an comfy, low road noise, good road traction.

Do you want to mod your truck and make it bigger and all that jazz?

Mine haven't left me hydroplaning or stuck in the snow, but my old Revo's were much better in every situation...I am running my stock Dunlops until they wear down and will be replacing with a high quality all terrain for the look and performance I desire...

Why no love for Michelin? I had a set on my 02' double cab for 100k. These were highway miles over about 4 years.

I HATED the Dunlop Grandtec or whatever they where called, sucked on road , sucked off road, sucked in the rain, sucked in the sun. They sucked. Got rid of them at 2300 miles, um, they sucked for me and my uses. Running 275/70r17 Goodyear Silent Armors now, they do well every where, even small mud.

If they are the Bridgestone Duelers, I say keep them. I got 50000 care free miles without even a hint of trouble. I just replaced them with a more "exciting" tire last week. New tires are BFG KM2's. But credit where credit is due, the Bridgestones performed flawlessly for the life of the tire. Like yourself, I used the truck to go from A to B through snow or whatever.
