when to switch to synthetic oil
alright i want to hear when you should be able to switch to synthetic oil. and exactly why you should wait. not just the standard because you have to wait for break in. i have done alot of research on oils and have found that most of the new dino oils today have way less zinc causing premature cam and internal part failures. as a matter of fact castrol is now making an oil with a higher concentrate of zinc. to combat this problem.

I know the dealer i bought mine from puts syn in them. I changed my oil at 1,000 miles and have been using mobil 1 since. I have always used this in my cars, my 1986 iroc camaro which is known for smoking on initial start up has yet to puff 1 cloud at 140,000 miles(engine 305 untuched) just a tune up at 60,000 and 120,000. I live by mobil 1 full syn.
Ps: i change my oild every 2500 or 3 months. I never miss. Even if im out of town ill do it in a parking lot.

I have always heard that you can change to synthetic at any time, but once you change you cannot go back. I was told that you cannot mix synthetic and non synthetic oil. I dont know why, but I listened.

I'm not sure about not being able to switch back..whether it's dino to synthetic or the other way-around. Synthetic oil has different molecular properties that should not be mixed with dino oil. If one did want to switch back, I would use a flushing agent prior to making the switch. Amsoil sells a flushing agent and recommends this when switching from dino to their synthetic products.
