Tacoma Body Side Molding - See it!

After looking for a while, I ended up buying the body side molding from Dawn Industries. The molding is of nice quality, formed to match the body contour, painted to match and pretty easy to install. I've attached a couple of pics to review. Zigs on Ebay has some pretty good pricing.....if you are looking, I hope this helps......

Stupid question, but what does the body molding do? The only thing I can think of would be to protect the truck from door dings.

and if every new Tacoma came with the BSM's...

most here would be posting about their recent BSM delete.

 

I was looking into some of those,
But I think I like the look of a Lift and Sliders, better.
Then the only damage is to the door edge that opens into you

Price should be about the same.............shouldn't it?

I think they look good. Those would cover my door ding perfectly and prevent new ones. Probably cheaper than repairing the ding. I also just ordered a set of Famous Fab sliders yesterday too. Double door ding protection!

Depends on the slider and the door that's trying to dent you. I've been researching them all this past weekend. Many popular sliders stick out 1/2" from a vertical line drawn at the point where your door panel is farthest out. Several models go out more, examples are 0.875, 1.625, 1.875, and even 2.875 inches. Depending on the shape of the door trying to strike you and the height of the other vehicle, sliders may protect you against most doors except those on taller vehicles or those with particular door edge shapes. Most sliders will protect you against common car doors, which I believe are the most likely to strike you.

Not a perfect solution, Not a perfect world.
My scenario includes a lift and increased tire size, raising the slider about 4"
Also depends on the sliders, height of your vehicle, and the configuration of the other vehicle.
Likewise a Ford F350 with a 6" lift is going to leave a 6" vertical crease just above the OP's Body Side Molding

And I have looked into & considered the Body Side Molding.

Good discussion. I think that the higher your Tacoma is, the better your sliders protect you from other doors. After I get my sliders on I plan to take a pic of my daughter's 2001 Escort's door open to it and see what happens in the real world. Happy to share any info I've gathered if I can be of help. I usually park next to full-size vehicles too, and I'm glad they're just as careful as I am about my doors. This is where the OP's trim strips would come in handy and I've got a suspension upgrade on the horizon too.

I've added another pic. Also, the molding location seems to protect the door from damage by strikes from my other two cars (RAV4 and Venza). I've never regretted adding these molding to any car/truck I have owned. One door ding is enough......
