If you guys could give me some pointers and advice. I guess I'll start off with what I have available.

I have $2k down payment, my credit score was pulled, it was 739-746 across the board for all three credit bureaus.

I would love to get a limited version of the crew cab v6 long bed.

I am wondering what would be my best tactic to get the price at a good price.

Is it unreasonable to think that I could possibly bet the truck for around $30k out the door? I live in Hawaii, there's only one Toyota dealer here.

I already have an appointment with a sales guy tomorrow. I called in and they spoke to me and made the appointment. My credit was already pulled at the pre-owned section but I couldn't find anything that I liked.

I really appreciate the help and hope you guys don't mind helping out a newb. Thanks again.

Yep. 30k out the door for a limited is probably not gonna happen but doesnt hurt to try. I just got a TRD Sport double cab pre runner a few weeks ago for 29k out the door. I got them to throw in the running boards, hood protector, and all weather mats.

I happened to get that price from a guy at servco who we bought 5 vehicles from. So unless you know someone there, they are probably not gonna negotiate much. They can't keep the Tacomas on the lot, and I had to wait 2 weeks for mine (mag gray seems to be the most popular color). They don't call the Tacoma the unofficial Hawaii state truck for nothing, and it definitely doesn't help that Servco is the only Toyota dealer on the island.

Good luck to you though. Let us know how much you end up paying for the limited!

IN WV I paid 31k for a '12 DCSB TRD Off Road... thats with a wrecked trade in Nissan Frontier Pro-4x... I don't see why you couldn't do close to $31k... my sticker was just under $34k...

Other members need to check me on this as I've had very limited sleep of the past few weeks but, something like this.

Use sites like Consumer Reports, www.kbb.com or NADA for collecting data below.

1.) Find the invoice (call it "A") of the truck.

2.) Find any factory to dealer rebates (call it "B") and or factory to buyer rebates (call it "C").

3.) If my memory is correct, Toyota hold back is 2% of invoice (call it "D"). When calculating hold back, do it prior to backing out rebates but, do back out shipping cost first (call it "E") as it is a fixed number.

    4.) Negociate either a fixed $ profit or % (call it "F").

    So invoice not counting shipping (A) - rebates (B + C) - hold back (D) + profit (F) + shipping (E) = offer price.

    NOTES:

1.) If you have a trade in don't combine the deals. Treat them as two different deals.

2.) Let them think you'll finance the deal through their F&I department as much of the deal profit can come from F&I. You'll need to be up on rates available to you when you hit the F&I department to keep a good deal going after you have a price you like.

3.) Don't fall in love with the truck, let them think you'll walk away.

4.) Be reasonable, consider your area and supply/demand and remember the dealer is a for profit business.

Go to Truecar or another online auto site and price the truck. Take that pricing with you when you go to the dealer to help negotiate.

Just an update but it was out the door at 34k. They would not budge one bit lower. I am putting down $7k for a down payment, credit score is great, but they would not budge. It's harder because they're the only Toyota dealership on the island but it comes with the tow package and all weather mats. This is for a pyrite mica DCLB.

I think you're supposed to wait until the last saturday of the month to buy. Maybe if you waited one more day. It must be fairly common though because that's what I did and the dealership was packed!

Man, I used to live in Hawaii too and I visited that dealer. They are absolutely terrible. Offered me $8k on a trade-in for a 2011 Mazda 3 with 11k miles on it. The dealership here in San Diego offered me double that.
