Was wondering if anyone had any second gen double cabs with oem racks and a basket attached to the racks. If so what kind did you go with? Ive see the threads with pics of the baja racks and the yakima racks with baskets and all that(so I have searched) unfortunately that isnt what Im looking for.

I just purchased and mounted up a set of oem racks and was considering a basket to mount on top of them. Just needed some help from fellow TW'ers to see if its been done and what to buy.

    As always thanks.

This is a dead topic...tried to make a thread like this last year and it ended in fail.

I wish there were more options, but I think I'll just have to go with my Yakima with an extension.

yeah im finding that out the hard way, i was trying not to have to invest $500 in a basket. esp when i could prob just take the oem racks off sell them and then put that money plus a little more towards getting a baja rack set up.

If you feel you'll eventually go with the Baja rack, I'd just get the version that works with the factory roof rails so you don't have to sell them. They even make a pretty cool light bar for the Baja rack too. The basket is like $400 from TRDParts4U.com

yeah but the straight baja rack system isnt much more than just a basket from them, and the only hing is with only the basket on oem racks you are limited to less than 100lbs cargo and with the straight baja rack setup then you can go as heavy as RTT for around the same price.

Didn't know about the weight limit on the factory roof rail version. That seems odd...

well its not the necessarily the weight limit on the basket, im sure the basket could hold much more, but your factory rail system is only rated for a total of 100lbs. so you subtract the weight of the basket which seems to be b/t 30 and 40 lbs and that means the factory roof rack can only handle around 60 to 70 lbs of additional stuff in on or around the basket.

I have been debating this myself. Bit the bullet and ordered a Baja Rack to mount directly to the cab roof. It seems like (compared to what's available) it can hold the most weight and it still looks good. I was also concerned about height, and keeping things low (oem rack + baja rack = 10"+ maybe).

here are some other threads i used to help me make my decision:
