Tire Size Options???

I will be purchasing a set of Toyo Open County A/T II's in a few weeks. I can't make up my mind wether a 265/70/17 or 285/70/17 will look better. I am set at 1.75 in the front and 2" in the rear. All input would be appreciated. Thanks

 

265s with that little of a lift for sure

 

I'm sure the 17" wheels make a difference, but I couldn't come close to fitting a 285, not for fear of cutting but due to bs, I have less than half an inch between my tire and the spindle with 265's and 16" stock wheels.

 

The sport 17" wheels have the same backspacing or very close to the same IIRC. He would have to get wheel spacers to run 285s. Only having 1.75" of lift with 285s would most likely require alot of trimming, especially if he does any offroading.

 

just stick it out with the 265's. i was in the same boat with worrying about chopping and trimming

 

having some off road potential is a benefit of keeping 265's, full travel/articulation with no worries plus less power used to turn the larger tire = gas money saved! I drive about 20K to 30K per year and tho everyone was saying put 285's on w/ 3" lift, they aren't the ones paying the gas bill! Plus at that milage off-road tires are hardly a long term commitment; not sure how much the OP drives, but definitely things to consider!

 

I will be mounting them on SCS Stealth 6's. I agree though Im thinking 285's are going to be way to big and stuffed in the finder well. I currently do not do any offroading but in the future plan on doing a bit after she is broke in.

 

Thanks I did put the stock tire beside the 265/70 & 285/70. There is a big difference between each of them. Im thinking until I put my UCA's and Eibachs on the front I should just stick it out w/ 265/70. Thanks for all the input.

 

265/70R17 with about 1.5" lift all around (Eibachs up front and 2" lift in the rear but the shell settles it down to about 1.5")

Same lift and tires, just an earlier shot when the tires were new.

If you're keeping the OEM wheels, I'd go 265/70R17. If you are changing them out, I'd get some that stick out slightly further and go with a narrower/taller tire. With the OEM wheels, it makes the truck look too skinny in my opinion.

 

I am getting the SCS Stealth 6 wheels gunmetal 17x8.5. What would you recommend or anyone else being you said a narrower/taller tire??

 

Check my gallery, i have those wheels with 285s. The offset is aggresive so you may even have a little trimmin to do with 265s when you flex the suspension. I trimed a shit load to stop the rubbing with my stealth 6s, 285s and 2.5 inches of lift

 

Those wheels are probably to wide to run a tall skinny. I believe the 255/80/17 in km2s recomended wheel width is 8.5" max (might be 8) without the sidewall of the tire bulging out a little your rims are more exposed to rocks.

Edit: checked tire rack. Recomended wheel width is 6.5-8.5, so you can do it. The tall skinnys are 33.3x10. There are more options if you go 255/75/17 (32.1x10) same recomended wheel width.

 

I don't mind a little trimming. Nice truck by the way. Yeah based off looking at yours I think I will stick with the 265/70 until I can give her a better lift. I don't wanna do to much trimming but currently am only putting city/highway miles on my truck. Thanks for the pics and input.

 

I was thinking the same thing as far as tall/skinny due to other pics I have seen w/ people running the 265/70 with the Stealh 6. Awesome thanks for checking on that.

 

No problem and thanks i just uploaded a few more, crappy cell picks but you get the idea. There is always 275/70/17 also. On the scs stealth 6 group buy thread there is a guy who mounted 265/70/17 on the stealth 6s with no lift, he said he had to remove the mud flaps and had some minor rubbing during normal driving. You might be fine with you lift but if you flex the suspension and turn it might rub a little

 

The Toyo tires I am wanting don't come in the 275/70 and I like the look and price of them. I just removed the mud flaps on mine so maybe I will be ok. What is another decent AT tire that come in 275/70 that get good mileage/for the price??

 

I have 265s and am really anxious to up them to 285s this summer maybe depending on $$$$

 

You also have Eibach Coils and are probably sitting higher than me. When you get them post pics. Nice truck by the way

 

Thanks! Yeah I have eibachs with 5100s @ .85 and a 1/4" spacer on driver's side. TSB springs in the rear are to be replaced after tax money shows up. Then this summer wheels and tires. I'm liking the idea of Ballistic Jesters and Duratracs or Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx

 

Sounds like a setup I need to start working towards. Nice!! I will have to check those tires out I really don't know much about them.
