You can fit a child seat in back of the AC cab but are limited on which models fit easily without limiting the front passenger seat from being moved up. There are a few posts dedicated to child seats in access cabs if you are looking for more info.

I have a DCSB and store my tools behind the drivers seat which I use daily to save bed space. The bed itself fills up quick if you have an open bed or a flat cover of some sort.

If you have had a first gen you pretty much know what you are dealing with already the truck size has not changed that much.

The 4cyl is a capable engine if you are not hauling heavy loads. This has been proven over and over. The 6cyl typically gets 16-19 depending on driving style and area.
