Tacoma brakes aren't linier, they feel artificial and overboosted. Add me to the "not a fan" list. Its my only beef about the truck.

Put on bigger tires. Then you can complain about lack of stopping power :)

My 07 brakes are not the best I've ever experienced. I get a good initial braking but as I push harder the braking doesn't increase in relationship to the pedal pressure, very disconcerting at first but I've gotten more used to it now with 6 yrs of ownership and 85K miles. Early on a veteran Toyota tech even took it on his own to bleed the brakes in search of better pedal feel when the truck was in for routine service.

I'm due for front brakes so I'm hoping new pads and rotors (thinking about Powerstop truck and tow) will make a difference in the brake feel.

I have a 2012, only 10 miles and I'm getting a vibration all of a sudden. Must be the rotors. (bought it used so you never know.)

I think it's a "you have to get use to it" thing; every vehicle is just a little different. Whenever I drive my step father's older Expedition that has an actual throttle cable I spin the tires every time I take off, lol. Not intentionally, but just because I've gotten use to the hesitation from a fly-by-wire setup from my last truck and my current Tacoma.

Have the 2013, don't really notice anything abnormal, however they are better then the 2009 TRD i was driving before.

Finally, I get to read comments that echo EXACTLY what I am experiencing.

I loathe the brakes on my 2013 AC OR. Like everyone has said, the brakes are so non-linear it's frustrating. You tap them and the truck nosedives, so you reduce you pressure and then you nearly hit the car in front of you because the brakes disappear compared to the initial bite. It's super hard braking, non-existent braking, hard braking.

My best friend and GF have both driven the truck and have had similar issues.

I'm sure my gripes are compounded by the fact my BFG ATs aren't the grippiest tire in salted road situations, so I feel the truck slide a little when I get on the brakes. It makes commuting in heavy traffic more stressful than it needs to be.

There's gotta be a way to adjust this. I'm going to talk to the dealer next time I'm there.

Yes, when you hit 90k like me you hope and pray they even work when you come to a icy hill or intersection.

I can get the ABS to engage when I absolutely get on the brakes. I guess the slide I feel isn't enough to engage the ABS, it's right at the end of the stop. I just wish they were linear.

I haven't driven another OR, but there's plenty of people who have described the exact symptoms I have seen.

I have the same feelings. I also have a 2013 Offroad Double cab. I only have about 400 miles on it and I am waiting to get used to the feel of the brakes.

I love the initial bite they have but after that it seems like it takes another couple of inches for any true stopping power to take effect.

I have a '13 TRD Sport with 265/70-17 MT's and I feel the same way the OP feels.

My '09 with the same exact wheels and tires would take a country mile to stop, but the '13 almost flips itself over if you even breathe on the brake pedal.

I'm not really complaining, but the brakes do feel massively over boosted.

So had the opportunity yesterday to reallly test these brakes. I was going about 80 on a wide open, clean, dry freeway and this dumbass civic in front of me decided it was time to put it in park for no damn reason.

I hit the brakes & the damn thing locked up all four tires & slid a few feet!
Even my beat up first gen with a bum abs sensor will use the abs reliably.

Maybe I didn't keep the pedal slammed down long enough... & I do have the warranty ..
Anyone know if there's a minimum speed to trigger abs? I'm curious to recreate this high speed slide...

Probably because that would be a waste of time.

What are they going to do? "Nothing" would be the answer...

I'm in the same boat: 13MY ~1000miles...I hit my head off the dash every time I brake! They grab hard! I'm just going to get used to this set up instead of changing anything.

Nothing is actually wrong with it, so nothing is what they will do.

Nobody is really complaining in this thread, it's just a conversation.

The braking in the 2013's just needs to be gotten used to.

OP, take it to the dealership and have them look at the brakes. If they say nothing is wrong, ask them to explain why they behave the way they do. You spent 30k+ on the vehicle, the dealership should provide you with support after the sale. If not, make it clear you are taking future business elsewhere.

Also, if something is wrong and the dealership says nothing is wrong, you've got it documented for when something bad happens. So far, you documented that something seems wrong but decided to do nothing about it because a bunch of people on the internet said it was "normal" and to get used to it. Negligence is a bitch.
