trade from 07'access to 06 double???

hey all, havent been on in LONG time as i dont drive my 07' taco much..poor gal sits in the driveway most of the time and i use my other car. anyways, i'm looking to trade my 07' speedway blue access cab 2WD with 46000 miles in for a double cab as i have kids now. I found a really nice 06' with 63K double cab sport 4x4 with a 6" fabtech lift and other goodies. is it worth trading backwards in years and mileage to get a good looking truck?? were there any issues with the 06's that the 07+ did not have? and even the 4x4? any known issues in the early 2nd gens? lemme know what you think?

You're already going to be going backwards since that Access cabs are worth less then the double cabs. Plus the dealer is going to do anything possible to get every penny from you that they can. You are more than likely going to have to put money up to make it worth their wild. Just don't expect a hand over fist kind of trade, that won't happen. Good luck if you choose to trade.

i owe WAY less that what my truck is worth. i only owe 10k should be able to get 14 or 15k from dealer i suppose.

 

I bought my 2006 last year with 76,000 miles on it. I was coming from a T100 with 270,000 miles so it was an upgrade for me.

Drove my new truck 8,000 miles home. Bought in Phoenix, live in AK and made a bunch of stops along the way. Truck has almost 90k and has not given me any problems yet.

In my experience, the 2006s are a great year. Coming from the old Toyota, I appreciate the lack of 5 different traction control devices....

I have an '06 Prerunner with 120k on it. Runs like a champ! I think the truck you're looking at would be a great step up. Yeah, it's a year older, but still has really low miles for a 7 year old truck! the side steps are the nice power ones(make sure they work or take a chunk out of the price). The body looks clean. I would check the carfax for any accidents. Beyond all that, I think it would be a sound decision to go with the '06 double cab 4X4.

 

thank you all so much for the input! when i say kids..lol i mean my 3.5 year old haha! yeah poor kid has been shoved in an access cab until now. yeah, carfax link is on the website. looks like only 1 REAL owner, 2nd owner is probably dealership for last 10k miles it seems anyways. hard to tell. spent some time in colorado it appears.

 

I would jump on the DC if the deal makes sense for you. You'll love the extra space in the DC for the kid. I updgraded from AC to DC last week to give my son more room and now I wished I had done it sooner.

 

update: ironically, the day i posted this..the 06 sold.. a few other questions..

How many miles is "too many miles" for a used taco..i see a few 05'06' tacos with 60-70K...considered to high to be worth while?? for example: in my "miata" world..150K is low since the motors ar basically bulletproof if taken care of.

should i avoid the first year/second year of the 2nd gen taco?(05,06) as my new generation vehicle are plagued with problems..i ask all this because i see a nice looking 05' 4x4 sport dblcab with 63K and i am interested if its "low miles" and not plagued with any issues that was fixed in the following years. let me know what ur thinkin'

 

You're good with the tacoma. Maybe not a ford or Chevrolet. That is low miles for that year truck. Since people usually put 12k miles a year and a 2nd gen tacoma last 200k at least.also 2nd gen tacomas haven't changed much.

Go for it man. Just check undercarriage for rust, make sure everything works, and it drives correctly.

 

sweeet. good to know that the 05 wasnt plagued with problems at the first year of the 2nd gen. i'll open my options to the 05' i see as well
