Well ive been considering, chopping my stock pipes up to the muffler. Because i Want more BRAAP! :). and i know these V6's require back pressure to run decent... so my question is? is it a good idea or bad idea to do it? i dont want to cause any problems.?

leaving the muffer on or cutting it off? just replace the muffler and cut it off after the downturn after the rear axel. that's what I did on mine and it sounds good.

What engine do you have? I have the 3.4 and put a magnaflow and had the pipe cut right after the axle. So it dumps down and outward without being able to see it. I love the sound of mine.

I chopped my muffler off, ran the pipe stright back with a turndown at the rear axle. Much more sound after that & very cheap.

My plan is to keep the muffler and just cut the exhaust pipes to the muffler. ? is that going to effect back pressure/

just change the muffler... you DO NOT want to have the exhaust gasses coming into the cab at all... you will get sleepy, and then you wont have to worry about what your truck sounds like since you will have wrecked it from passing out...

i doubt it changes the sound much at all if you leave the muffler.

A new muffler is cheap and easy way to get a better sound.

Just swap in a new muffler. Dont know how much change you're going to get losing the pipe after the muffler.

Good luck with your inspection without a muffler. If you mean after muffler you wont get what you want. Have a muffler only changed. Hacking the pipe after the muffler is for off-road clearance only. No need to spend the money on a cat back.

Hard to really recommend. It's all going to be personal preference as far as what you like for sound. Check out some youtube clips. While not a perfect depiction you should be able to get a decent comparison of different options. I have the TRD and if I had to do it over I would have went a different route. Nothing wrong with it, but would like something a little more noisy. I'd probably go Borla or just swap in an Aero turbine muffler if I would do it again.

Cut mine on the downturn "after" the muffler. I notice very little noise coming from the exhaust. I would not recommend cutting it before the muffler. Like most others have said, just get a aftermarket muffler if you want more sound.

    Mine after I cut it.

Just cutting off will not change the sound. You get the sounds change from the actual muffler being different. Magnaflow makes an off road series catback.
