It helps throttle response and sounds cool I think that's the only difference. If you buy Trd intake buy the old style looks like the afe intake. The new style is made by k&n and sucks

Just curious, why don't you like the newer ones? Why are the K&N ones not as good? Im looking to get one for my new Tacoma and was looking at the newer black & red TRD CAI.
    Thanks

I installed a volant air intake last week, havn't noticed any difference in gas milage. That being said it sounds cool, more throaty. But Idk if its worth paying a couple hundred dollars on one, I got mine for free so I lucked out there.

FYI, the majority of TRD accessories are not designed by Toyota. The older TRD CAI is made by AFe (which means you might as well buy it from AFe). The newer TRD CAI is made by AEM (not K&N). The newer design wasn't as well-tested and can inadvertently block a vacuum port when installed in the vehicle, causing the engine to run lean.

FWIW, "IF" you got an 8% gain, or so from an intake change, and only drove 15k miles a year, it would take about 2 years, or more, to make up the cost of the intake alone. Then, you would save about 16 bucks a month. Best mod is to drive slower.
