I think my 2011 rear end was replaced with a LSD mechanical rear differential ???

Posi-trac is a limited slip differential not a locker, but yes a street burn out should leave two black marks. The Tacomas don't have enough power to leave any significant black marks on the street w/ the ELSD functioning - that's why I demonstrated it on dirt/gravel road where some wheel spin would happen. Both tires are throwing rooster tails dirt/gravel, both are spinning.

There is a difference between traction control and Auto LSD. Traction control - engine power output is reduced. Auto LSD - engine power output not reduced, truck applies brake on spinning wheel to transfer power to the non-slipping wheel. It's pretty effective when I tried to do a hard launch on wet pavement.

There's a fringe benefit to Auto LSD - you can turn it off completely. This allows you to run an undersized spare in an emergency, whereas a mechanical LSD can be damaged this way.

This. For non-TRD Off-Road models, there's no vacuum assist when the throttle is open, so the Auto LSD braking force is just enough to slow down the spinning wheel.

Hey your VSC is still kicking in with it turned off? Mine is completely gone when I hold in the button as you say. I can slide around all day and do 360s on ice like a drunk 16 year old in his dads truck if I want to. Mine is an 09, maybe they changed it in later years. I would definitely be putting in the abs disable switch if I couldn't completely disable vsc.

Yes. Feedback I've gotten from others is that's the way it is on all of Toyota's VSC systems. Yes it will let you slide, yes you can spin it but if you drive it like a drunk 16 year old the nannies kick in just a little. The nannies don't suddenly kick in and try and completely stop the slide or skid and I haven't noticed the throttle getting cut, but I do it feel it braking an odd wheel if I get too wild. Apparently they don't want you to drive worse than a drunk 50 yr old...

    In my 2013 offroad.

everything on, the VSC cuts engine power and uses brakes to make the rear tires work together like described above.

push the traction control button once- turns on auto lsd and turns off VSC, at about 30 mph the vsc comes back on and will cut engine power but under that there is no engine power cut

hold the button 3 plus seconds-turns everything off, no auto lsd.

I don't know that I've ever gone over 30 w/ the VSC turned off. I've gone over 30 w/ the Auto LSD engaged (which turns VSC off) and it behaves exactly as you describe coming on at speeds over 30, turning off under 30.

Edit - the speedo has probably been over 30mph w/ the VSC turned off even though the truck wasn't actually going that fast. That's probably why I felt it bump and correct here and there, but the power didn't feel like it was shut off.

I just made a quick video to demonstrate what I mean. Sorry for the wonderful narrative.

I thunk it may be 35 mph and I'm sure its wheel speed not actual speed lol

also the tacoma has plenty of power to make some #11's on the road.

I would have made some better ones but my tires already have a hard life and i would like them to last untill this time next year.

Works a little better w/ the stick! I can get some good wheelspin sometimes when the weather is colder, the motors making a little more power, but its not leaving marks like that...

True, short of power braking (oh wait... new toyota's CAN'T do that lol) your not getting much more than a squeel.

If you have a tongue light trailer with VSC off you can roast the autos tires :) found that one out on accident.

The manual will do some pretty good burn outs lol. On a hot day you can actually smoke and leave some real, lasting black marks.. But when its cooler like now, the mud terrain tires basically smoke a little bit and do that black dust type mark.

    Actually, you can.

If the brake is engaged prior to the throttle being depressed, it will load up.

Well i don't have an auto anymore to try, i just remembered giving it a shot once on the 2012 and i got nothing..

Also, i tried some quick foot powerbraking on the 6spd and of course it cut the power..

Its a little irritating that they instituted that because some people had claimed sudden acceleration. I dont see why you couldn't nuetral, turn the key off etc etc..

with the stock tires my 2012 would chirp them in second gear from time to time.

Depends on the tire. I can chirp my 245 Firestone Winterforce snow tires very easily. My 265 Hankook ATMs have more grip on dry pavement, so it's harder to do.

When I get on it, I can lay rubber for about 25 feet with BFG A/T's, and chirp it into second, not to mention dump alot of carbon out the pipe.

my 265/75 range E BFG's stuck pretty good unless you really broke them loose.

The M/T gaurd dogs on my truck now 265/75 range D tires i can toast as long as i keep the speed down.

Done some Dohnuts with them its pretty fun.. And because they are cheap, i dont have to feel too bad lol
