I've had my all pro rock sliders welded on my tacoma for about 6 months now. I primered and rattle canned them black, but today, after a good detail, I noticed some areas on the sliders have rust. I don't want the rust spreading onto the frame. I know I will have to sand the rust off and repaint. or what do you all recommend in regards to doing this the right way. Cutting them off will be the last resorts. Thanks again for the help.

This is why our sliders are a bolt on product. Not weld on. When they are in bolt on form they can be removed for easy refinishing.
If the welding surface or frame was not prepped correctly before and after welding rust will be an issue.

Sand the rust down to bare metal and prime/ paint according to the instructions on the back of the rattle can.

Did you do the original welding and painting yourself?

Due to the nature of the product sliders are something that require maintenance.
I paint my sliders 2-3 times a year.

could also get some OSPHO or POR-15. clean with degreaser and dab a little ospho over the affected area and paint over.

I did the prime and paint myself, about 8 coats total. A local muffler shop did the welding. What paint or product do you recommend when re doing this?

Did it turn out well? Any signs of rust surfacing? How often are you touching up?

I assume its only rusting on the bottom side of the sliders yes?

That is just from road debris, you are in North County so it's not like you are experiencing winters so it's just normal upkeep. I had my sliders originally powdercoated and I've just spot treated the areas that have chipped off over the past 3 years. Plan on taking this job on a few times a year to stay fresh.

I have the same problem. I was going to try sanding them down and rolling on the POR-15 semi-gloss black... the regular stuff looks like it's high gloss.

Most likely the front sides where rocks on highways chipped away the paint. Unless he did some gnarly wheelin' :D

Mostly the bottom in certain areas. My fear is the rust spreading onto the frame.

Always possible, but that's as Steve mentioned a reason why their sliders are bolt on (just keep up with maintenance). I wish I waited a year or so on buying mine, bolt on's were few and far between when I got mine and now everyone offers them.
