So ever since i bought my truck every morning i had a vibration sound coming fro the pass. side under hood. It would start when i would drop it in reverse or drive, with engine cold and no throthle. After putting it in gear, parking brake on and looking under hood i found two problems. The top plastic engine cover vibration/rattling on the airbox right where the secondary filter is. Also where the air intake tube goes into the pass. side fender the round intake was rattleing/ vibrating on the fender. I fixed both things with $ 5.00 foam from Home Depot and noise is gone. Hope this helps if anyone else has this noise. Here are some pics off the fix.

I realize this thread is 3+ years old, but I had the same problem on my '07 4Runner and your solution also solved my problem. Don't know if you're still an active member, but thanks for posting the pics...they were extremely helpful.

I solved this annoying noise by loosening the clamp on the intake tube and twisting it until the rigid intake had clearance all the way around the fender opening, and didn't rattle when I tapped on it. Mine was the same, noisy when cold, and when starting off in first or reverse.

I had to turn that tube counterclockwise on the airbox 1/4" and clamp it back down to get rid of that tube-fender rattle. It snugs up the tube so it can't shake.

Nice idea with the other foam strip though, I'm going to have to check that out and see if it rattles there.
