you should not be charged for anything they swap out. if they find something that may need to be taken care of that is not covered by the recall, they will let you know and you can say "yes" or "no".

I want to buy some billsteins 5100s and have them swap them out during the frame replacement, do you think they would?

It depends on the dealership. Majority of the cases, I'd say No - because they'll only install TOYOTA parts.

they should swap them out for free. my dealership said they would put any new coilovers/shocks/struts in for me at no extra charge. they will charge you to assemble the suspension probably (putting the coils on the 5100s)

That's the only nice thing I've found, the RAV4 is cheaper on gas, and half the tank.

But damn I'm going through withdraw

A guy I know works at a toyota dealership and is getting me the inside scoop. He told me today that letters are beginning to be shipped out to us taco owners about the recall. My worry is this: I just purchased the truck a month ago. Did toyota already send the letter to the owner before I bought it? Has Toyota even sent my letter out yet? Obviously you all cant answer but im sub'd in here now. Waiting for it to come on my toyota recall list as well as my seatbelt bolt and leaf spring recall I have waiting

My dealer was my problem for nickle and diming me away. I am shopping around for a new dealer to perform this work for me. The TMS stand is no additional assistance from them.

Your dealers may look at how good of a customer you have been to determine what they will offer you. I only went in for occasional oil changes or recall work. No much value there, so they won't help me out. I believe they just don't want to deal with this recall or me as a customer. They win...I went away.

I also understand that the dealer won't absorb the cost to remove and re-install my brush bar and topper, but hadn't even considered this when I went in. I will remove them before going in again.

I talked to a pro-mechanic who assured me this frame was solid and would drive for many years without worry. I still want to get the new frame and continue to drive my truck, but only after some more research and negotiation if I can find a dealer who can help me out. I have softened my stance and really just want my truck repaired for a reasonable cost or nothing out of pocket if I can.

The following are close ups of the exact locations this recall is about. My 05 is definitely damaged, but as stated above, road worthy for years to come.
First is next to the CAT. I picked it apart with my fingernail. The hole is about 3 inches maybe.[IMG] [IMG]

This area is passenger side by the muffler. Check out the frame splitting and the corosion between layers. [IMG] [IMG]

I will continue to look here for more results of this recall and post whenever I find out more details of what can really be done to help me fix this rusty mess.

Type your vin # into the toyota service website. It'll pull all the recalls and TSB's. If it's there, take it in

Forgive me for asking what may have been answered in other threads, but this forum is huge and sometimes tricky to search.

Is this 2nd gen frame issue somehow limited to specific "lots" of frames or does it impact every single frame on all Tacomas? I'm not referring to the location specific warranty or recall offer, just simply the frame having the rust issue. I ask because I wanted a Tacoma ever since I got my driver's license 18 years ago and finally bought a new 2014 5 months ago...also if the 2014's end up having the issue, does the fact that I bought and registered in North Carolina and then moved to and re-registered in New Jersey 2 months later impact my coverage for future issues?

Thanks for any wisdom imparted to my questions...

From what i have understood, it effects every 2nd gen Tacoma frame. But the ones in the Rust Belt are the ones who receive the recall. The fact that you are currently registered in NJ, I would assume means you would be included. However, I'm not sure the newer Taco's will be in this recall because they haven't seen the numerous winters with salt to institute enough frame corrosion.

Is there any value to waiting until the March 31, 2016 deadline to have the inspection performed? Ya know....hold out and hope your frame approaches replacement. Really, my concern is that after the spray treatment, is Toyota going to wash their hands of any future frame liability?

I do not know if there is value in waiting or not..That is your call..But if your frame passes inspection and they spray your frame toyota wash their hands with your truck.. so if you get a hole in a year or two later..Toyota is not liable..

Are the new replacement frames "improved" or just new and will start the same process over again. Also are the newer truck frames going to do the same?

I've got an inspection appointment next week for my 2006. At this point I'm not sure what to hope for, pass or fail. Here is a pic of the worst of the corrosion that I can see near the catylytic con. What does everyone think? I don't believe it goes all the way through.
