Ok guys, I have a tundra right now and am fixing to trade it in for a new 2012 or 2013 taco. The gas milage on my tundra is killing me! I have a lift and 35's on it. I'm wanting to down size to a taco DC 4x4. After I get it I still wanna put a lift, tires, and wheels on it but don't wanna go big. I wanna be able to put 285's/33's on it with no rubbing or cutting. Will a 3" suspension lift from say like pro comp or revtech allow that? I also want to put new wheels on it to. Can I run 20" wheels? I could of swore that I have seen some gen 2 tacos running 20's but I wanna make sure. I am also going to have the lift installed professionally by someone like 4 wheel parts or another off road shop here locally in the Houston area. Anyone got any advise for me on this?

You can put the 285s on w/ a three inch lift.
I'll search for the 20s. Pretty sure they will fit though.

I don't think you will see significant difference in gas mileage after all your plan mods. Even with stock Tacoma gas mileage is not that much better.

You'll likely have to do some sort of trimming for them to fit. Check out Toytec lifts.

I was getting 16MPG after lift and tires without a regear. How bad was your mileage on your tundra?

1" lift from 3rd gen suspension, 265/75/16 ATs
    My thoughts exactly.

Unless you go for a small lift, maybe 2" or less with 265/70/17 for instance, I don't think you will be happy with the trade. Unless you really want a Taco of course. It won't be worth it for fuel savings with 285's imo. Then again don't know what you getting for mpg with your Tundra right now...

Assume a 2 MPG improvement in fuel consumption (say from 15MPG to 17MPG), 15,000 miles driven annually, and a fuel cost of $4/Gal.

    Annual savings in fuel = (15000/15 - 15000/17) * 4
    = ~ $470

    enough to go over stuff
I did a 2 inch lift on the front with 265/70/17's on my prerunner dc long bed. I still get like 19. I agree, if he goes taller and wider with 4 wheel drive the milage will be bad.

I'm getting 10 mpg with my tundra. I have a 6" pro comp stage 2 and 35" Toyo mt's. Its costing me about $100 a week in gas to drive to work and this if I do not drive my tundra anywhere else.

Have you considered maybe getting a smaller car instead of trading in for a Tacoma?

So your saying that a dc Tacoma 4x4 with 33's will not get any better gas milage than my tundra? I find that kinda hard to believe but then again I could be wrong.

When you go for tires n wheel just look at your weights and try and stay w a c rated tires and not an e rated tire and you will be fine. You can run 20's if you want but imo 18's look a lil better. On my Tundra I ran 20's which I liked but since the tacoma is a lil smaller 18's or even 17's look better. If you go w 20's I would get a 275/60r20.

I leveled my tacoma, 2.5" in front and 1.5" in the rear. Went from 265/70-16 to 265/75-16 and lost about 1.5-2 mpg. Was getting around 18, now I'm around 16.
