Locking gas for the Tacoma

I am wondering is there a locking gas door you can buy for the 2013 Tacoma

 

Many miss the locking fuel door of the past- the only option is a locking gas cap

 

I was told the locking gas cap causes a code or two to pop up, I didn't buy one because the guy at toyota said not to waste the money and that the way the filler neck is designed its almost impossible for somebody to siphon.

 

I'm more worried about what someone could put in the tank. They can have the gas.

Same here. I put a Stant cap on new in April 2008 when I bought my truck new.

 

Two questions:

1) Do you retain the use of the plastic lanyard w/ a locking gas cap?

2) I've heard a lot about their locking mechanisms being a joke, easily bypassed/broken, and essentially worthless. Is this true?

I have one from Napa that works fine. I've had 3 (I forget to put it back on and drive off) and none have thrown codes. There's no reason not to use one, really. Why make it easy for a vandal?

 

I was told it threw codes on 2012 and up, by the parts guy at toyota.
An auto locking gas door would be sweet. 1 less key to carry

 

Why would it make any difference , nothing has changed with the gas cap / evaporative emmisions system

 

I picked up a locking cap from my local Napa. I love it, and have never thrown a code.

I purchased a Stant after it was pointed out to me that the lanyard on the gas cap was just a piece of plastic and not a wired sensor. It will only throw a code on you when not properly tightened. That can be fixed with a quick turn of the cap.

I put a locking Slant cap the day I bought it and no check engine light.

 

Hopefully they make the Stants better now. I went through 2 of them (one had a defective locking mechanism and the 2nd had something break inside.) Went to a Murray locking cap... been on now for 3 years with no issues.

 

I put a murry locking gas cap on from oreillys.
no codes 6 months and counting.

 

You can get a locking gas cap.

Locking the gas itself would prove quite a challenge.

 

The stant gas cap sucks....it's locking mechanism is very unsecured..... I got the Murray one and the quality is night and day.
