I got a call from my friend today to come help a poor guy stuck in a ditch in his old T100. I managed to pull him out but not without burning out quite a bit, mind you I was offroad but must have been in a hard spot of dirt. I have done the yellow wire mod already but traction control didn't work like the yellow wire mod should make it while in 4LO. Am I doing it wrong or what?? I thought it just automatically worked in 4L?

Bump. I know this is a beaten topic but I searched already and know I have the correct wire pulled already. I just don't see what it could be.

Was that burning out normal though? I just feel that it was slipping for way too long for traction control not to work..

its not ATRAC... so its not as aggressive. you have to spin quite a bit to get it to kick on, so thats normal. you also have to rev up quite a bit.

Yea, I think people think that the YWM is getting ATRAC for free. Go off road with an ATRAC Tacoma and you definitely notice the difference in traction modes.

I just imagined it would work much better with all the talk surrounding it.

It could be my RPM wasn't high enough, that is true but I did burn out for quite a bit without anything at all engaging.

Maybe I overestimated the abilities of a TRD Sport from the get-go.. I had no idea when I bought it that ATRAC mode as well as the e-locker was a TRD OR exclusive only.

i have not done the YWM yet. I have tried to unplug the yellow wire without any luck, but I can say, I have been nothing but disappointed with my sport in 4Lo.

I just tested out the mod the other day climbing a rocky dirt hill that I couldn't make it up straight before.
I had to take a less aggressive line before. I went straight up this time, the tires started slipping, I held steady throttle and the trac kicked in and pulled right up and over. The mod doesn't work on every obstacle as I tried another and the mod wasn't enough to get me through it. The truck is definitely better with this mod than without it.

Pretty much what nd4 said. I bought a sport and not an off-road, though, I dont know what the short bed has to do with it?

When I bought the truck and didnt think I would need atrac or lockers, but 5 years later, I regret not getting the off-road. I have been in many situations where I need the gearing of 4L and find my tires just spinning. Usually I am loaded down with firewood and 4h would just bog down and stall. I have BFG A/T's, I dont know how much better some M/T's would do.

Now I just need to get the &*#@'s to cut the yellow wire since I am failing miserably at disconnecting it.

i mentioned short bed as really the only reason to get the sport is the long bed. 2 months of owing my OR... locker has been used a handful of times to get me through situations with zero issue / wheel spin where if it wasnt there it woulda been hell.

That stated, it shouldnt take a whole lot of wheel spin... only as much as traction control normally takes.

MTs would do so much better. I've had a few different trucks that I switched from AT to MT and every one of them improved dramatically. The Goodyear MTRs are pretty damn nice on and off road. You can hear them hum on road, but it's not bad. They're quieter on road and grippier off road than the the old BFG MT, I haven't tried the newer ones. My favorite off road tire has been the super swamper TSL-SX bias ply. I didn't daily drive them, but enjoyed them on road. As a daily driver they may get annoying.

Thanks for the info. I haven't even started researching MT's yet. I have 40,000 on my current set of tires and will probably get a new set before next winter.

Just curious, why are people disconnecting ABS? Is just for improved control when off roading/limited traction circumstances or is there more to it?

This mod is for getting the traction control to work in low range, not disabling the abs.

Burgh - that's what I noticed, once mud gets in the thread I go NO WHERE. How much louder are the MT's on road?
