Anyone use 0W-20 oil ?

Went to the Toyota dealership today and they had this sticker on every vehicle on the lot. I have been using 5W-30, so I might make the switch.

I wouldn't feel safe using an oil that thin. It says right on the sticker that the reason for the switch is for MPG and emissions reasons, not for engine protection reasons.

The fact that it's a thinner oil and they say you can go longer between oil changes also really scares me.

I have been using 0-20 oil in my Prius for 3 years now. 0-20 only comes in synthetic. Use it only if it is recomended for your specific engine. I would not change to 0-20 if 5-30 is recommended. My 13' Taco recommends 0-20. With the tighter clearances in the new engines, thinner oil is not going to harm them. It will let them run more efficiently.
Pros:
*Longer time between oil changes ( Although 10k is the recommended milage between oil changes, I change it every 5k).
*Great gas milage ( I get 55 mpg in my Prius. I have not had my Taco long enough to see any difference between my old '03 2.7l and my new '13 2.7l).
*better starting in very cold weather
Cons:
*Expensive ( although I have found 0-20 more expensive than 5-30 synthetic, the price difference has been getting smaller).

Saw a similar poster at the Honda Dealership. This might be fine for brand new cars, but I'd stick with what your manual says. If it says 0-20 use that, if it says 5-30, use that.

2013 V6 Tacomas still have 5w-30 in them. The 4 cyl ones come with synthetic.

Op, as mentioned follow your manual recommendations. Since I have a 2.7L, 0-20W is a option which I use.

Been using 0W-20 since I went to synthetic Mobil 1. No issues and my user manual says I can use it.

4cyl has 0W-20
6cyl has 5W-30

That's that...nothing new...OP has a V6...he should stick to 5W-30, and if he hasn't done so, switch to synthetic (use Mobil 1) 5W-30.

I used Mobil 1 0W-30 the oil change before this most recent one and there honestly wasn't a fuel mileage difference. I track every fill up with Fuelly. While using it, the engine stumbled more and generally felt less refined than it does now with Mobil 1 10W-30. I did also go 15K miles with it kind of by accident (thought I was only at 10K) and it looked fine when I pulled it. I wouldn't hesitate to use it in a engine that calls for it.

I have been using 5W-30 Mobil 1 synthetic since I got the truck. My manual says 5W-30 for the 4.0 V6, but I thought it was interesting that they had these stickers on the 2013 model Tacoma even though its the same engine.

I use what is recommended by the manufacture for my year, make, and model.
For distances between oil changes, I usually go in the middle of the oil manufacture and car manufacture. Right now I change at 5K.

I used it when I lived in interior Alaska because of the extreme cold temps, but living in a place where 100 degrees is quite common that thin of oil kinda makes me apprehensive to use it. But my Tundra called for 5w20 so who knows.

They're either lying or going against what Toyota tells them to put in the V6

Either is pretty likely....

That's because 0w-30 and 10w-30 are the same viscosity when your car is warmed up!

Or the Lot Boy just putting stickers on all the vehicles, not just the models recently approved for use of 0-20W
