I didn't paint chrome, but I painted the inner part when I made my grill. It's held up very well. It's all about prep work. With the chrome your going to want to scuff it up with a fine to very fine sand paper. Clean all surfaces to be painted with bug and tar remover. Them some light coats of primer(3-4), followed by light coats(3-4 or how many it takes to get full coverage) of your chosen color. Light coats will give a smoother finish and none of that dripped paint look. You can do a final clear coat if you prefer, again a few light coats. Temperature is a factor when it's cold out. You would need a heated garage or warm basement.
