    What's up TW.

I have been browsing through some threads and been learning quite a bit. This forum is going to be helpful.

So I just bought a 13 Tacoma. Magnetic Grey Double Cab.
So far I like it a lot but I want to start modding already but the off-road scene is fairly new to me.

I'm going to start with basics like: intake, exhaust, some rims (I really like the TRD FJ Trail Team rims), and maybe a small lift (don't know what yet)

But I wanted to ask, where do most buy their parts from? Also, from what year Tacoma parts would fit on a 13?

    Congrats! Good choice in color.
    - Lifts - Several TW vendors. ToyTec, Wheelers, DownSouth are some common places to start. I got the ToyTec Ultimate Lift Kit, but OME seems to be a very smooth ride for cheaper price. 5100's all around is even cheaper.
    - Good choice on rims. Look on ebay and you can find black and anthracite. Trail Teams seem to be original in some cases. FJ SE Anthracites are usually powdercoated, but originals are sometimes found for hefty prices.
    - Lot of different ideas about CAI. Do a lot of reading before buying.
    - I would always recommend speaking to Scott from TruckAddOns before buying most other items. He typically beats everyone else.

    Good luck!

Is powdercoated black an original finish? Also, how can I tell if they are originals?

    Thanks!

Typically a dealership will tell you if it is powdercoat or original. I would recommend calling to make sure. Trail Teams (black) are a bit easier to find originals right now than they have been. FJ SE Anthracites are a different story. If you like the look, get the powdercoats. They look very close for a cheaper price; if you find any at all.

If you're new to the offroading scene and we're wanting to get more into it, let me give you some advice:

Skip the CAI unless you just want to throw money away - the return on that investment is piss poor.
Wheels aren't going to help your offroading ability, but if you're going for looks before function by all means, grab some wheels.
Exhaust is personal preference, but again, not going to really help you in offroading.

My advice is to start with some respectable all terrain tires and grab some Bilstein adjustable shocks to level the truck out. Trim or remove your mudflaps so they don't hit every single speed bump (let alone rocks or other low clearance obstacles you find on trails). Get some decent recovery gears (straps, shackles, etc...) and save the rest of your money for the time being. Do some wheeling and figure out what it is that you need for the type of wheeling you want to do and go from there.

Looks like you and I just bought the same truck. I see your old "toys" in your sig. I just traded in my 2011 5.0 Mustang in for my Taco. I had about $2500 in mods which I took out of the GT before trading it in except for the GT500 exhaust. Now I can sell the Mustang stuff for mods for my Taco.

I'm in the same boat as you man just bought my '13!

    But Start off easy
Redline hood struts are a lifesaver first cause you'll end up spending lots of time under the hood.
On board air will do so much more for you than CAI or exhaust off the road.

Take it out, climb around and give yourself miles to decide if you're the type that likes slow technical rock crawl trails and high mountains or the pre runner type that likes to go fast on flat ground- that'll guide you on your mods more than we ever could.
I love slow hard climbs with the & have no need to go fast- ill never need the supercharger but you might.

Not sure what area you're in, but if you're near the inland empire, I'm always looking for friends to go climb trails with!
