I really don't think it will be anything like that... I think he's talking more looks, and maybe a closer feel than a lifted truck for example...

I vote 4x2 Off-Road. It comes with the electronic locker, and considering you get traction and stability control standard, I couldn't fine a good reason to cough up the extra dough for 4x4.

Believe it or not, for me, it came down to either buying a 3-series or a Tacoma. The truck won out. I was very surprised how well the OR package handles on road.

The only reason you should be saying this is because of ride height. You can easily swap the leaf springs on an XR and your towing capability will be just as if not higher then any of the pre-runners.

While it may not have the ride quality of a BMW, it is still a truck. While my case may be more unique then most, it is a representation of what you can do. In my truck I keep pace with M3's, including some of the new ones. And it cruises very nicely at +135mph.

Only thing you can't do in an XR that you can in the Pre-Runners.. off road/4x4 stuff. But it can do anything else if you want it to.

To be honest I know what you mean, as I had a lowered G35 before the pre-runner. I must say, it's nice to be hitting the gas instead of slamming the breaks at a speed bump, and you'd be amazed at the stores I can actually go to! X-Runner wont' make you happy if you were annoyed with that to start. If you're going to do any off road, or think you might, it's worth spending the dough now. I wish I did...

I just drove from San Diego to SF to get my Tacoma. Took me a long time to find it too. It was worth the trip. I got an 05 sr5 4x4. If your going to the mountains in winter wont you want the 4x4 unless your gonna chain it? Thats the primary reason I got it. I went with an 4cyl sr5 4x4. I won't off road it, except maybe fire trails. Just want to go to the snow and avoid chain restrictions. Got a bike for off road. Keep looking and you'll find the right deal.

Hey guys i have a 2002 dub cab tacoma 2wd with a recently installed fabtech basic coilovers with 31in bfg at with eagle alloys and i wanted to know if i can instal the toytech 1.5 in spacer and 1in block on top of the fabtech coilovers and if it would cause me any problems?

I have the 05 DC 4x2 without the locker or LSD & towing my boat is not a problem. Never any problems on the boat ramp either. And I have been on some steep crappy boat ramps. I tow an 18' Ranger bass boat with a steel trailer(older boat).

No reason to spend the money and get the 4x4 OR if your not gonna be using it....just get the 2x4 OR or Sport. I have a pre runner and it is VERY capable offroad

4x2 TRD Off Road

I'm researching a truck purchase and have similar needs.

From everything I have read and from what the dealers tell me, the TRD Off Road & Sport have the same suspension and towing capacity. The TRD Sport has 17" wheels and a non functioning hood scoop. The TRD Off Road has 16" wheels AND the ability to get the locking diff. You can't get the locking diff on the Sport from the factory. I think the locking diff would be just the ticket to pull out on a ramp.

Depending on your likes or dislikes, you may want to swap wheels, grill surrounds/centers or mirrors. You can find many wheels & grills on Ebay or in aftermarket versions. If you tow, the MUTH mirrors http://www.muthco.com/index.htm with the directional signals might be a good option.

My vote: TRD Off Road 4x2 Access cab, V6, tow package & automatic.

Cant go wrong with OR/Sport (socal counds like you will mostly be on pavement? so 4x2). I picked the short bed because I don't carry anything at all in the back and enjoy the easier parking.

I'd get a 4x4 my last truck was a pre-runner and i eventually regretted not getting a 4x4 of course now I have a X-Runner so my mind changed on wanting a 4x4 too.

Listen, your money, your truck, GET WHAT YOU WANT! I live in the city, and drive paved roads all the time. I have a 4x4 TRD OR. and I love it, I've also had a wrangler and lots of full size 4x4. I probably will use 4wd 10 times a year. and the locker well probably never. But I just bought a used one, and my wife said what ever i get im keeping 5-7 years. So i figure right now not i might not use it but down the line....and it helps resale, i like the stnace. and i figure who cares.

Now the 2wd model is very very capable, and uses less gas, has less moving parts, less to maintain and if you are sure you're never gonna use it go for it...

I voted for the Sport 4*2 b/c thats what i just got and love it, but i did snow in central VA this year first time in about 6 years and i had some trouble getting around but i did get around. Whats funny though my previous car was a 01 Integra GSR had it for 4 years it never saw snow but 1 month after i by my taco it snows
