Dome Light Mod / Map Light Mod.

Hey has anyone here done the Dome Light mod / Map Light mod? Or even if you haven't. I'm trying to figure out how to pop out the whole front section where the temperature-sunglass-maplights are located. I know there's a screw you have to take out where the sunglass holder is but how do you get the rest of the whole piece off?

To remove that console, pull from the rear. You'll have to be firm with it because there are a couple of metal clips that have to pop loose. But, don't pull from teh front or you'll tear your headliner. There are two forward facing hooks that hold the front in place.

Make sense?

Okay that's what I've heard. Now when you say rear, do you mean the part closest to you and farthest from the front windshield? Or rear as in part closest to the front windshield? Also, just pull straight down right?

Yeah, the rear is the part farthest from the windsheild. And pulling down is the proper direction to make the clips release.

And if memory serves, the clips to release are towards the front of the console, so you may have to pull down with equal pressure on the sides a little too...

Okay I got it off. Oh and you have to pull down the very front of it, "closest" to the front windshield where the temperature display is. That's where those to metal clips are.

Haha! No worries. It took me a bit and kind of screwed up a couple of clips but it was all good. Just popped the clips back into place and it was okay. Ran the ground wire to the dome light. Still have to connect it to the dome light but my shift was about to start so I took off and left it hanging.

Where and how do you connect it to the dome light? It was king of unclear from the final pic in the write up. I took my dome light down, do you just need to add a ground to the dome light with a bolt?

You know what I tried eveything but I can't figure it out!!! I'm thinking of putting it back to stock!!! But yeah you just add a screw and a blot to hold it in place. Let me know if you get it to work!

Okay if anyone wants to do this mod, I found a much, much, much easier way to do it without a diode. And about 1/4 of the time too!!! Actually, harshest found the info but I put it into action and it worked great!!! Thanks again harshet!!!

Well like it says in the steps on the mod, switch the two wires on the map light connector. Don't worry about any saudering or diodes, connect the ground on the "dome light" just like the picture with a screw and bolt and a spade connector for the ground wire. Then run the wire back to the map light connector, strip wire back on the ground wire and place in the 3rd section of that connector! Re-connect to map light and it should be good to go!!!

I ended up soldiering it to the dome light because I didn't have a small enough bolt. Regardless it works without the diode.

Next I am going to figure out a DTRL mod that uses the brighter out the two filaments without buying the parts from Toyota.
