Screw that people getting screwed because of their own "Ignorance" is absolute BS. Some people may lack the knowledge that we have and to think it's okay for some "Stealership" to butt rape someone is insane. Now if they were satisfied with the sale and liked how the truck looked that is something all together different. I hope someone gets that truck because they love it and they get it at a fair reasonable price regardless of their "Ignorance"

On a side note, did they fix your whistling noise? Mine's whistling from somewhere around the satellite radio antenna and that's the dealership I bought it from. Planning on taking it in at some point.

If someone is too preoccupied and unwilling to do 5 minutes of research on a $40k purchase, then it's your own fault. That price, from a dealership, is comparable to what you'll find at any other dealership. If you're too dumb to look at a TRD Off Road, then see that truck with an additional $10k package and don't research what makes up that extra $10k, sorry but I don't really feel sorry for you.

I'd bet that those extra parts probably add up to $5-6,000 including their own installation costs. That means they're potentially making $5,000 on that package but they also have to carry that sunk cost and potentially have to repair or replace those parts since they're presumable covered under warranty. This would really only appeal to someone who wants to finance their mods with the truck and has absolutely no idea what the individual 'upgrades' actually cost.

I do not feel sorry for a dealership who sank money into a truck to try and make a sale. The dealership is not thinking about the consumer they are thinking about making as much money as possible off us. The relationship between customer and dealer, or any other business, does not have to be adversarial. I have no problem with a business charging appropriate prices. But come on 43,000 USD. For those "upgrades" in my ideal world they eat those costs and whoever thought it was a good idea is looking for work elsewhere.

I don't feel sorry for them either but the fact is, they make packages like that because someone will buy it... Honestly, the person who does buy it will probably drive away thinking they got a really nice, dressed up Tacoma that sits apart from all the other ones on the lot. Doesn't sound adversarial to me... If you buy aftermarket parts through the dealership and have them install and warranty them, you will pay a premium for it. You are paying the dealership for their sunk cost and perceived risk. Don't like the price, don't buy it but I see no need to feel sorry for the person who does buy that thing...

Any place that employees salesmen who have the authority to lower price to get you to buy it is by its nature adversarial. For instance when I bought my truck the best they could do was 29900 until I showed them the paperwork that my buddy had given me that showed he had purchased the same truck at the same dealership for 27000. That is a crock I knew it and so did they. If I had not pushed they would have put more of my money in their pocket. That to me is adversarial. Anytime you negotiate a price against the house you are fighting for your best interests. And to talk about installation costs? Do you honestly think they paid a premium to have those upgrades installed? I don't, I think they had a tech install those items on straight time. I do hope whoever buys that truck is really happy with it.

On a lighter note the way we are talking maybe I should move to Mass and you to NH!

You are right. The first pic shows the yellow flare matching the yellow fender perfectly. Must be a reflection off the window or something.

Really though that is the nature of a vehicle business. The customer comes in, argues for the best price possible, and if it is the price they feel good about, they make the purchase. If not they walk out and aren't obligated to pay. Point being, if the buyer really wants that particular truck, they haggle it how they want and if the price is right make the deal. No one is twisting anyones' arm to do so, and in the end the goal of the dealer is to make a profit, and the bigger the better. It is our job as consumers to recognize when it is a bad deal/overpriced and not make the purchase.

On the flip side though it IS morally right that the dealer SHOULD be realistic with the addon price. So I get what you are saying that the person that would buy the truck probably is of that type that would take it as is simply because they believe the addons are worth it. Then again anyone who has 43k to drop on a cheaped up truck, of which without the addons could have it for 10k cheaper AT LEAST, probably doesn't care either way.
