Dash kit Painted?

I am thinking about getting some plastic spray paint and painting my dash kit black. What do you guys think? I saw someone painted their stock cd player speedway blue and it looked pretty good.

I like the all black look, Be sure and prep the plastic right. My friend painted a plastic part in his truck and it started rubbing off. Turns out he was suppose to prime the plastic with another type paint and then apply the top coat. Good luck!

 

i'd just be worried about how well it would hold up. otherwise, yeah-it would look sick.

 

If you go back and read the post again of the guy who did it in blue, he also mentions that primer paint you put on 1st and then do your top coat. I think it will be ok. I am going to a salvage yard and picking up a black one for my 05 in the morning

mines the opposite, black dash with silver faceplate and i like it alot, it breaks up the dash a bit. yours should look good to!

 

I just did mine this past weekend. Taped off the stickers and the trim around the clock area and sprayed it all black. It looks great, the dimples give it a carbon fiber look.

 

I like the look of all black around a/c controls and the black vents on either side of the radio. Nice

 

here's mine, i got rid of all the silver. out of a base model truck is where most of the stuff came from. whatever couldn't be swapped was painted to match.

 

I think that looks really good. I'd do it in flat or satin black though. I don't think gloss would match well.

 

they should have matching paint for the IP cause that what we use for touch up in the assembly line i just know where u can get it

Here you go, unlike one of the other pictures posted by someone else, I took out the buttons and taped off the stickers and trim to keep it silver.

 

yea I like that it looks sweet. I think I would keep the buttons silver too. hardest part would be painting my cubby hole on the dash kit I have hmmmm.


so many choices. I like both pics posted. All black dash kit with silver side vents or leae the dash kit and paint the side vents silver and ac part black.

 

is it hard to remove the radio face and ac controls face?

 

You could just tape off the cubby hole and leave it silver.. from your picture it almost looks black since its closed off. It might turn out bad if you try to paint it, especially since its spray paint.

The paint is Dupli-Color Truck, Van, SUV paint. It's used for outer acessories like spoilers and stuff.

It's not too hard to remove the stereo dash, you start by prying up the A/C control panel, theres four bolts and you can pull out the big stereo/cd changer. From there you have to unscrew alot more stuff to take it all apart but its not that complicated.
