When I put my Taco in reverse, there's a 2.5 second hesitation before it starts rolling back smoothly. It's like there's something holding it from rolling backwards, even when I slightly gas it.

Even worse, I reversed into my inclined driveway and parked it, but decided to reverse it a bit more. When I put it in reverse and let off the brakes, it rolled forward a few feet! It's as if the tranny took it's time to go into the reverse gear. I stomped on the brakes and let off, then it went into reverse, but with the 2.5 second hesitation.

My Taco's still pretty new with 130 miles. Any of you experience these? Is this normal? Thanks in advance.

Not normal...if it were me, I'd watch carefully until 500 or 750 miles, and if it's still doing it take it in. If it gets worse, take it in.

    Quick update.

Yesterday, I dropped by the dealer with my Tacoma and the shop foreman rode along as I went into reverse. He quickly said that's not normal and he didn't want me driving the Taco anymore. So they sent me off in a rental while I left my Taco with them overnight. They called today and said they've done a series of tests on the transmission per Toyota, and may do a few more tomorrow. They said Toyota wants to pinpoint the cause of the malfunction before possibly replacing the transmission. :(

On a lighter note, they've put me in a new Prius V. :)

hah I wish it was 95 mpg. I looked it up and it's only 42 mpg average. It's a bloated version of the regular Prius. The bloat takes away the mpg. Pretty roomy interior though!

I think Toyota makes one called the "plug in" that gets 95 mpg.

Glad to hear they know it's a problem and will correct it.

On the other hand, turn in your 'Man Card' for accepting a Prius courtesy car. :D

Watch for signs of breast growth or the beginnings of a menstral cycle. If this happens I would recommend returning the rental ASAP.

A delay or hesitant reverse usually means an issue with the low / reverse clutch .
Reverse only uses hydraulic controls and no electrical solenoids or computer control . Reverse uses a fully mechanical / hydraulic application .
In Laymans terms ............Not good .
Hoping this critter is low on fluid as the reverse clutch uses the most pressure out of all the clutch packs .
Hopefully they find something with the mechanical portion of the valve body and thankfully the truck is still covered under warranty .
What kind of timebomb did Aisn Warner plant now ?

hah!! Yeah the Prius was a bad choice. I regret it now. I just moved it into my garage so my neighbors won't see it. I think I'm going to bike to work tomorrow, or until my Tacoma returns. And the smiley face was supposed to be a frown. I clicked the wrong one.

Thanks for the info. I never expected it to be this serious. I might think about getting an extended warranty in the future.
