Its necessary to remove the bearings off the tripod to remove the tripod itself..the bearings pop right off with a little pressure and pop right back on..

cool, makes sense. now the last thing, i dont have the special clamp tool, would worm drive hose clamps cause any balance issues? even if i tried to be smart in my redneckness and offset them?

I know my truck can handle more, but I also know my wallet can't handle anything breaking :(

That'll change after I start at Rebel Off Road on Wednesday ;)

I have been using those clamps for a few years now with no problem. I would suggest in buying a box of latex gloves and a spray can of brake clean/parts wash from autozone, pepboys, etc etc. CV grease is stupid messy and gets everywhere. Also look up CV boot mod and do that as well

They do but are meant to be a temporary solution and not a permanent fix.

How often do these crap out??? What would cause it a lift kit??? Not something I would have the patenice to fix I think. What mileage should I look at them. I'm just short of 17k on mine

Look at the angles on your CV shafts. If the boot fins are touching anywhere on the boot, then they will be rubbing when you're driving, effectively causing wear on them and eventually causing them to tear. Since a suspension lift will raise the front diff, the angles will be more steep, causing the fins to get closer.

Just keep an eye on them. If you're at stock height, they shouldn't be rubbing. After a lift, good idea to keep an eye on them fins once in a while to check for any signs of rubbing.

if you end up going after market go with napa, i replaced both mine when they both tore and i want to say it was $90 per c/v but the good news is they come with a life time warranty so if even the boot rips napa will replace the whole thing for free.

Right now it's 100% stock. How much do they rub with about a 2" front lift (884's with 5100's I'm thinking of doing)

Just wanted to let you know the Cardone halfshafts are a good axle. We use them all the time at the garage where I work. Never had one blow apart yet. It is the same axle you will get from Advance, Autozone, or almost any other auto parts store. Rockauto.com has about the best price for them

    This...one of my first mods.

 like I said, I've gone wheeling through mud, sand, dirt, rocks, and every day driving with my friend's Taco that has one of these. Nothing short of satisfactory.

you sir, are a scholar and a saint. your help is much appreciated. couldn't have gotten the balls to do it without your input.

early last minute run tomorrow will be, gloves, more lacquer thinner/brake cleaner, a 35mm socket (wish they would have stuck with the old 54mm), and some nice hose clamps if i cant find the tool to crimp the factory ones. my ecgs bushing came in so ill be doing that also. . . .better check how much gear oil i have in the garage. shoot might as well do all the gear oils. and im almost due for a coolant change, might as well do the t-stat. eff it the pump too, wonder how that radiator caps doing. . . . there i go again, ramblin and emptying the wallet. . . . . crap

Add extra cotter pins to your list in case you mangle one while trying to remove it from the half shaft..
