That's GEARING , not the motor.
You CAN pull anything in 4Lo!

    Nope, 4.2qts (2wd).
the 4x4 holding more, assume(uh oh) that means the extra oil is used in the front axle arrangement and not in the motor.

Not 100% sure on this, but I think the oil pan on 4x4's are just larger. Still all goes to the motor.

You think the 4x4 uses motor oil to lubricate the front axle ?

I'm thinking he meant that he thought it might go into the front diff. Not that that's true either, but still... Haha

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
The 22r and 22re 4 banger motors are what put Toyota on the map, yes they will last longer. But they like anything else need to be taken care of, anything can become an unreliable piece of shit if it is neglected routine maintenance.

Sorry but your assumptions are groundless, unsupported and really make no sense. Most of each of the 3 different Tacoma engines regularly outlast original ownership, and IME the engines tend to outlive the bodies of these trucks. Your over thinking something with no facts!

Why do the 4x4 motors have the extra oil capacity? Harder use expected? I believe all versions of motors have more oil capacity with 4x4.

The 4.0L V6 is not really old enough to know how long it will go, having come out starting in 2005.

My 2006 4.0L V6 has 323k on it and shows no outward signs of any wear or aging issues. No repairs. Runs like a champ.

I have worked at an auction for 4 years and in that time I have driven thousands of vehicles and consistently the 4 cylinders always have higher mileage than the v6. The 2.7s (new and old) are bulletproof.
