So I picked one of these up from ebay recently and was wondering if anyone had experience in putting one of these in a truck which didn't have it originally...

    Any advice would help.

    Thanks in advance,
    Pat

I don't know much about that sub. Is it out of a d/c or a/c truck? I have seen that sub they put in the a/c in between the two rear fold up seats.

same here, I doubt they ran the wires for all of the doublecabs if they did not need to.

Probably cost him more for the wire harness. I think he will be out of luck to find on on ebay.

A wreckign yard might have the harness, although I don't know how many were made with the JBL option. If ebay doesn't pan out you can try a local stereo install shop, they might be able to hook you up with something.

Never know because sometimes it's just easier for Toyota to throw one master harness into all the vehicles of the same model then try to make different harnesses and coordinate their install every time. ie .. the 09's have the option for a rear view camera. If you don't have one when you purchase your truck the wires are still in the headliner as well as the camera in the tail.. you just add the mirror aftermarket.

Is there a way you can tell that you have the JLB option? without looking in the back for the sub of course..

2005+ Double Cabs (without the optional factory JBL system) are *not* pre-wired for it. In particular, the harness leading to the separate amplifier unit will need to be added. To make things more difficult, the amplifier (and / or the wiring to and from it) uses one or two special multi-pin connectors.

And it says JBL on the speaker grill on the doors. I took my sub out and it turned all the speakers off in the truck, so the sub has to be wired in to the whole system.

I have found a JBL head unit that I was thinking might work to replace my non JBL 6 disc unit, but from what I read here, if you didn't get the JBL from the factory, the truck will not be wired for it, correct? Can one just put in the JBL head unit without the sub and amp into a truck that did not come with one and have it still work as the non JBL head unit does? Would anything be gained by doing this and adding only the JBL door speakers? I also found a complete set of JBL door speakers and was considering them with or without the JBL head unit. Will they work with the non JBL unit and if so, would this be worth doing? Just looking for better sound not loud sound. Hope this all makes sense.
