The turbo requires proper oil changes, You can align the rear, if the seat got too hot the recall was not done, they have plenty of power if the turbo works, you maybe right about glow plugs I had to replace 3 in 220,000 how many spark plugs is that? no you can't take it off road but then again a Taco doesn't get 50 MPG. All that being said unless you drive A LOT a TDI is not for you they are not the cheapest thing to maintain and is not an around town beater.

I would go with the Mazda 6 with the new sky active-D and I think the Mazda CX-5 (small SUV) is due to get the same Diesel motor in 2014.

My super fine girlfriend has a 2006 Jetta TDI, 6-speed. I love the thing. It has PLENTY of of get-up-and-go! I don't know much about it mechanically however. She has never had any mjor problems with it. I changed out the thermostat last month and had the front wheel bearings changed last year. She has put 155K on it, runnin fine!
Outside of Portland diesel is .50 gallon more than gas.

    Do it!

VW = quality of Russian Lada. :D
Buying VW is probably worst decision you can make. Yeah mileage on those vehicles is great, its even better when they are on flatbed towtruck.
Buy Ford or Chevy they have better quality than VW.
    my 2002 Golf Tdi had
    Turbo replaced multiple times
Window broke from mounts and fell inside the door shattering
    Fuel pump problem.
Also Doors and windows would freeze in winter.
I had to drive wifes car for two weeks because my car was frozen shut and even after getting through rear hutch and warming up it would not go.
    Horrible POS.

^^^ hahaha, this makes me laugh... I just came from a VW Jetta. I used it as a commuter. It didn't have the TDI but it was still a great car. Much better built than any Ford or Chevy, more bang for your buck. If you compare models there is no question in my mind to go with the VW.

Check pricing and see what you get compared to the VW.

Only complaint I would have had is if it needed major mechanical work which I hear can be costly... But had no issues other than a wheel bearing.. And I drive like a mad man!

    Got a link?

Thanks for the one you posted in the other thread. I wasn't even aware VW was considering bringing Amarok to Canada for 2014. It was still a rumour though, wasn't it? Or was it officially announced since then?

My previous daily driver was a BMW. Needless to say, I'm not exactly buying the "german engineering" anymore. Least reliable vehicle I have ever owned and most expensive service. BMW really was "broke my wallet"..

Not sure if all german cars are the same, but it's sounding like there is a trend. Great when they work, pricey to repair and service, but no match for the Toyotas/Hondas in terms of reliability/longevity/resale value.

Not the one I had and not the ones few of my friends had. My old Ford t Taurus had better quality than my 2002 Golf.
Not to mention VW Service is horrible and VW corporate is not much better. When my driver side window fell inside the door and broke they wanted me to pay for window but they would replace plastic mounts that held old one, for free. Took letter from my lawyer and case in civil court to get money back.

There is a problem when Towtruck driver remembers your name. :)

Interesting how varied experiences are , the VW dealership we bought my wife's Golf from has been great

Kinda like the threads on here about people having shit experiences with Toyota dealerships I guess

In the car business there is a saying: "There is a butt for every seat."

I'm sure it would be impossible to please everyone. Too much variation from customer to customer.

Based on my internet findings every single vehicle ever made is junk and every dealership sucks. Don't even think about calling corporate.

I'm manufacturing my own vehicles from now on.

Maybe VW Canada is little better but US is horrible. My VW was in repair once a month for something. Worst part was dealing with Service and VW corporate. My buddy had painted on the back of his Jetta "Dont buy VW its POS and VW ... will not repair it" Every time he went to VW service they would give him problems for the window sign, but he lost his gearbox "notorious 2gear synchro problem" then his dashboard cracked and front window cracked) they also played him on Lemon law" so He end up battling VW in court, won case and they had to take car back and give him full refund. But who wants to be in court for his car problems.
VW is not worth trouble. If I need to save money on fuel I get Scion IQ. plenty of fuel saving with out towtruck involvement.:)

Had a 2008 Audi A4 and a 2010 VW Jatta GTI. I was at the deal more than I can say, ever time it was dealer only parts and about $1000. Traded in the Audi on a Mazda 3 and the Jetta on a Highlander. Haven't seen the dealers for any repairs, just normal service. If the truck is not giving you any problems I'd keep it. Once it's paid off it will be much cheaper in the long run. Just a thought. Good luck on your decision.

My girlfriend drives a 2010 TDI Jetta and it's real nice. She gets 40-45mpg and it actually has quite a bit of power. When that turbo spools up, it comes on quickly. Real nice interior. I try to have her drive that when we go somewhere far that the truck isnt needed.

I will say once you are beyond the factory warranty, maintenance work on VW/Audi is expensive. They manufacture parts so that they do not last in what to me seems intentionally, or careless. On my Audi A4, the items like breather hoses and various fittings around the engine are all made of thin plastic. They simply rotted away after about 8 years of driving. Suspension bushings will go, just inherent in the design. Other than that, I think VW/Audi are very nice cars.

my GF's TDI fuel pump went in 2012 and due to the nature of how it went it ended up needing the pump, filter, and a ton of items in the engine due to fuel management. VW picked it up and it was a few thousand dollars. About 6 months later some government agency contacted us to ask for our input as there had been a very high number of fuel related failures in the TDI (at least that year). I told her to reply, but she got lazy and didn't.

They do here in the States. It's just the previous gen body style.

OP, you may look into the new Jetta Hybrid although I don't think it is available in the wagon if that is what you want.
