I have a stock suspension 06 dbl cab trd sport and I'm wondering if I can go with a 285/50/20 I know that's a lower profile than some people like but I will be keeping my stock wheels and tires if I ever need them but I'm mostly on the road. Also I'm looking at the cooper zeon ltz any thoughts? What offset wheel will I need? Thank you

285...I guess you could get away with a -12 offset on a 20x9 or 20x10 rim, but youd have to do some trimming...

From what I understand, the only way to fit 285's without trimming is with a 3 in lift...

If you get wheels do 20x9 -12 offset (4.5 bs) I would also get a set of bilstein 5100's for the front to just raise it either 1" or 1 3/4 and you should be fine. You might also have to take off the fromt mud flaps. The cooper zeon ltz I have run before and is an excellent tire.

That's not 100% true. I have 285/50/20 on mine and I'm running 20X8.5 with an offset of 12. There was very minor rubbing on the driver side mud flap but that didn't start until the shocks started to sag. I recently replaced them with 5100's. With the 5100's set at .8 they don't rub anymore. It can be done without a major lift but it's going to depend on the offset.

I'll accept that. I was just trying to help since no one responded to the guy. Personally, I have no lift at the moment, and dont ever plan on running 285's, so it was s hot in the dark for me.

265/75R16's will fit on a stock Tacoma and technically the 285/50R20's are shorter, so they should fit in that aspect. They are wider though so that is what would likely cause some rubbing but as CRU said it was minimal so only minor trimming to no trimming will be needed.

Well how far would that offset make the wheel/tire stick past the fender? Any other suggestions for good tire size. Also what's the factory offset? Thank you

would stick out like 2" further than stock. would stick out. .6" further than my rims and tires...

I see you have an 06. Here are my rims and tires on my old 11 to give you a better idea of what it is. Remember, the setup you are looking at will stick out .6" further than this. It will be just enough that the tread starts to come out from under the fender...

About 3/4 of an inch or so. Here is a pic of mine. If you want something nearly identical to your factory tire you can run a 265/50/20. With those you won't have any rubbing issues at all. Then again, I know someone on here who had 295/40/20 and they didn't rub either.

    As for the stock offsets:

Well I'm still kicking around exactly what I want to do. I did look for 265/50/20's today and everything looks like a street tire. No all terrains. I started wondering if I should go 265/65/18?

Yeah, 20" rims are mostly found on low riders that run street tires. All the M/T 20's are found on jacked up diesels that are running 33's and up. I haven't personally looked into tires available for 20" rims but it looks like you will have to either change to a smaller wheel or get a lift and go to taller tires.

I just found a cooper zeon ltz in a 275/55/20??? I don't want to go to low on the side wall, I don't do heavy off roading but like to go fishing, take quads places, camp. This whole tire/rim decision kinda sucks.

That tire would probably require some trimming. Hard to say though. It is almost a 32" tire.

I know, man this is tough, just figured they might since they are the same width as a 265/65

eh... they are almost half an inch wider. 265's are 265mm wide and 275 are 275mm wide. 10mm is about 0.4". But yes they are pretty close to the same width so they is a chance.

I'm thinking about a blk/polished vision warrior 20x9 and a 275/55/20 cooper zeon ltz. Thoughts?
