How much taller is the BAJA versus a regular 4x4?

If the tire size is the same, I'd have to say they are the same height. The shocks are resivoir type, iirc, but the arms and springs are the same.

I think they are the same height. There are very few differences between all of the extra packages (like the Baja, limited, xsp, etc), mostly just things like looks. The big ones are the TRD Offroad, TRD sport, Pre-runner, X-runner. Those ones have more sigificant changes between them. The Baja is just a dressed up version of one of those with different rims and decals and probably a few other things. Functionally it is no different than the others really. Just a way for Toyota to make someone believe it is superior in someway and milk more money out of you for it.

I did just read this off Toyota's website site. Not very detailed though and I couldn't find anything specific.

"TRD worked closely with Bilstein® to develop Baja’s Suspension Package. Up front, 3-in. diameter race springs over 60-mm Bilsteins create lift of almost 2 inches. Rear suspension has 50-mm remote reservoir Bilstein® shocks, and BFGoodrich® All-Terrain tires mounted on 16-in. TRD wheels. Plus a TRD cat-back exhaust system provides a little extra growl."

Baja is 2" taller in the front. Rear is the same height, so it's more of a "leveling" situation.

Either way, the package is way too expensive for what you "get".

Any idea on how the shocks perform? I imagine for the money you would save by not getting the baja edition you could get a better suspension setup in the end anyway.

If you're gonna build the truck the smartest move for overall cost is to get an SR5 trim and build it.

Yeah, for the cost of the BAJA package at about 5 grand, you could do long travel or top of the line, all-the-stops mid travel. Totally not worth the cost.

I have the 2012 Baja. I love it, ya it is way to much but fortunately I had a hook up and I was out the door with extended warrantee, extended Toyota service and a full size spare with bead locks for 33k and that's at Ca tax

Just FYI, my 2012 TRD OR had 2 leafs and the overload in the rear, my baja has 3 leafs and an overload, tuned rear. This is equivalent to the TSB I suppose. It's been tuned quite well- much different ride than my OR (6th Tacoma) and shines off-road. The front shocks and coils immediately eliminated all rubbing and created a progressive front end that doesn't scrape when going into a deep trench.

It is the TSB leafpack from what I have heard. I believe all of the newer TRD Sports have the TSB leafpack right out of the factory but the Offroads still come with the regular pack IIRC.

So in other words, to duplicate the Baja's suspension, one would need to do the TSB to the rear. I've noticed that the tuning that's been done does make for a little bit stiffer ride on the highway, but on trails…no more "squirrely-ness."

^Looks like it. Though if you are paying out of pocket as an upgrade, there are better springs on the aftermarket than TSB leafs. For wheel travel get Deavers. For increased weight capacity get Wheelers', OME Dakar, All-Pro, etc. Icon or TC hydraulic bumpstops are another possible upgrade.

I've had my '13 TRD Baja about 4 months now and love the ride offroad and onroad.

I did replace the OE rear springs with NW Offroad HD rear springs and that has been a huge improvement......the rear end does not drop at all with a load, and the truck has just a little rake front to rear......I got 2" of lift in the rear with MW Offroad HD rear springs.
