Yup, I made a mistake ... write that down :p

I meant the AT 2 not the MS 2, the overlap on the lugs on the AT 2 is great.

Put on a set of Michelin LTX AT2 at 3500 mi, now at 42,000. Great on wet pavement and wet boat ramps, a tad more noise than stock but worth the tradeoff. Would do it again.

When i lived in Erie, PA (snow capital of U.S. with the lake effect snow dump) everyone had a second set of wheels with these on them and swore by them, but they are not a good year/round tire.

I was thinking the same thing....

I dont think any tire will help you "not die" driving that fast over "heavy water/light slush"

I have them and they are my first winter tire, but I'm not sure how I feel about them. They are not bad by any means, but idk, maybe I was just expecting too much? When they wear out I will reconsider if I want to spend money one two sets of tires again or will just go with Duratracs year round.

OP, for what you said I don't think there is anything that will beat the ms2's (not the at2's) . They are great in wet, as good in snow as any all season tire will be that isn't rated with the mountain/snowflake, and they are quiet and will last forever. I haven't found any on road situation where I felt these tires didn't perform well, and I've had mine for 3 years now and can't see any visible wear after maybe 30,000 miles.

In my experience the Firestone Winterforce without studs is a disappointing snow tire. One day in February there was some ice in my driveway, and I had to engage 4WD to drive up 25 feet...

Is this your first RWD vehicle? Next time you encounter heavy water / light slush, just put the truck in 4Hi. Difference is night and day.

I'm running Wintercats for winter w/o studs added. They drop me 1 mpg on top of winter blend fuel, not crashing in ice or is worth that n more.
The problem I have is the reg cab length and good snow traction, I have to be careful using 4wd at slow speeds or turning or I'll get some 4wd binding.

Thanks man, but my name is Steve. ;) newfieDan was just a username I made up a while back and it was easy to remember so I used it. lol
I've been reading about the duratrecs but they don't sell them at the place I get a huge discount on tires. I get such a good deal I can't buy tires anywhere else.

We drive in this stuff everyday man. Like, every damned day. :( I know in the Ram with the BFG's there is no way they would have broken loose in those conditions. And they weren't even a good tire. You put some good winter tires on there, X-Ices or whatever, and you can do whatever you want in that stuff. We live on a rock in the North Atlantic, trust me, we're experts lol

I will say this though, 85 was definitely too fast to be driving in those conditions with a tire I didn't know. It was a bonehead move and Im lucky it didn't end up much worse. I basically decided to "test" them when I changed lanes, and they failed. Miserably.

Seems like AT2 or MS2 may be the way to go. I'll keep researching them in the mean time and see what fits best. Either way I will be buying proper winter tires in the fall as I do with every other vehicle I've owned. It snows like crazy here for many months of the year. A true winter tire is a must here IMO.

Thanks a million guys. Really appreciate the help. Now, off I go to read some more tire threads. :)

Even if you are comfortable with the truck and the tires, you should not be going that fast on slushy roads. Nobody is an "expert" on slushy roads.

Michelin LTX M/S2 is a great all season tire, not a dedicated winter tire, but do get excellent snow and ice traction.
