    Hello everyone!

Just put in an order for my new Trails Team Pkg Tacoma! Very excited as this will be my first new vehicle in over twenty years! The Tacoma will replace my 2000 Silverado which has been extremely good to me. Since I can still get good money for it I will sell it and buy the smaller Tacoma-agood replacement and great looking truck.

One question to you all-according to the dealer the locking differential (button on the LHS of the steering column is only available with the OFF ROAD PKG which, here in Canada, is not available for the 4dr 4x4.

Do the TRD 4door trucks have an automatic locking rear diff as I was told?

Is the Rear Diff Lock (switchable) actually only available with the Off Road Pkg? Can it be ordered with my TRD Trails Team 4 door?

    Thanks!

    Welcome,

Do you have a link to this "trails teams" taco? I would like to see it, I haven't heard anything about it unless it's dealer specific or regional specific.

To my knowledge there is no auto-rear locking differential. It's either push button (TRD O/R model) or limited slip (TRD Sport), again unless it's a regional / dealer thing.

The "Trails Team" edition is Canada's version of the TX and TX Pro.
And I'd assume the locking diff would only come with an off road version but I'm not sure about the Canadians. lol

Just did a smidge of research, apparently the trail teams taco is Canada's equivalent to the TX PRO / Baja here in the states and I would bet it comes with an electronic locker in the rear.

Large, you are right; it is a limited slip diff that is standard on the TRD-the base of the Trails Team here in Canada. I am waiting for the dealer to get back to me regarding if I can actually order the switchable locking rear diff.

Is this something that I should be considering!? Other than negotiating our significant snow, I do not plan to off-road so is it something that is just nice to have or should I not bother at all?

    Thanks!

...if, of course, it is an option on the truck.

It definitely helps with larger obstacles or if a tire is off the ground but under your circumstances I don't think it's necessary.

If you're not going to be doing any off roading you will probably be fine without. Certainly nice to have but in the 4 years I've had my truck I've yet to be in a situation where I needed it.

Hey hotdogtom, good luck with your new purchase. I actually traded in a 2000 Silverado (ext cab, Z71) for my 2013 DCSB TRD Sport. 183000 miles and not hardly a problem, but it was time to go. The rest of my family drives Toyota Trucks, so I jumped the fence. :D

There is "Trail team sport" and "Trail team pro" package. The sport comes in a couple cab, and is basically a TRD sport with a roof rack, skid plate, and additional badging. The "Trail team Pro" package is a TRD offroad package with nicer wheels and tires, plus a diff decal. In Canada, the TRD Offroad package is ONLY available in the access cab, not DCSB as it is in the USA. This holds true for the trail teams pro package.

If you are getting a trail teams, it is likely a sport package, and you will have to go to the aftermarket to get lockers.

    Thanks for the info guys.
I am still waiting an answer from the dealer to see if it an option on my truck. If it is I will decide based on price.
Expect the truck by first week of May since it had to be ordered. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas!

I really don't think it is. They would have to change the whole rear end. It isn't even the same size differential. You need to go aftermarket for the lockers, or go with an access cab. Those are your locker options in canada.

Anetheme is right. Trail teams on the double cab does not get you alocker. Just limited slip.

You aren't not able to get a rear locker on a 4 door Taco in Canada.
You also can't get an automatic double cab short box.

    We get ripped off.

Not sure if you can have the locker or not if you go with the top of the line "limited" trim on a double cab. I know you do on the access cab though. Getting the Ltd is about the only way to get a locker from the factory.

I also know you cant have Ltd with a manual transmission, which is where I lost interest.
