Does anyone else have the problem, in cruise control, where, on climbing a hill the speed drops about 4 km, before the crusie control kicks in at warp speed (almost pinning me to the seat) until the vehicle is about 4 km above the set speed, and then levelling off.
Controls in other vehicles I've driven are much smoother.
Is there a factory adjustment? My Tacoma is a 2006, 6 cyl. auto, extended cab.

And especially when I set the cruise at a comfortable 10 km over the posted speed limit. Will be just my luck to find a cop at the top of the hill when I show 14 km over the posted limit - can I blame Toyota! lol

I think they all do it. I think they used a cruise control system from the 80's.

Yeah, I haven't used my cruise much because of the same issue. Annoying when going up a hill and it thinks it needs to be at 4k rpms...

    Same here.
    Totally hyperactive.
It's like the ECU CC circuit doesn't know the trans kicked down. Back and forth all the way up the hill.
First time it downshifts (before it goes WOT) I plant my foot on the gas and kill the cruise until I crest the hill.

Must be an automatic thing mine works fine with the 6 SPD. It only shifts when I want it to.

Mines a 6 spd also. My problem is with the uphill and the speed decreasesing, cruise control overreacts pushing my speed way over what is alright with the power hungry cop sitting on the other side of the hill.

I had a 2wd 4 banger 2006. I hated the cruise on it. Going up a hill it would slow down 5-10 below set then blast down a gear rev to over 5k and zoom to 5 MPH over set and let up and repeat. Drove me crazy. I just ended up driving in 3rd gear sometimes.

My 2012 has a much better cruse.

Mine does this as well. There is a fix. Look ahead for the hill and down shift to 4th gear. The transmission does not try to overcompensate and only increases the RPM by only 500 to 700 RPM. Then shift back to Drive once over the hill. I do this all the time.

I just don't use cruise control. There aren't many flat roads in Pa. that warrant it.
