^They were in 4H, so A-Trac wasn't active.

I'm 3/4 the way through watching the first episode. Some TW members prepare more for wheeling trips through the woods than these guys...

Interestingly, the truck seems to be doing well in the low temps. Engine started up fine after being cold soaked for two days while the crew flew back to weld the cracked rim. Probably using OEM coolant, too, since it's rated for -56C.

Interesting. Those appear to be Prado 120 shocks, Koni PN 88-1712, 2.5" dia. They cost about $700 a pair.

Like so much of that embarrassment, the real Top Gear did it first, and better.

This was surprising to me as well. They mentioned how they were running bio-fuel and being as I live in Colorado I've done research in the past and bio-fuel doesn't like the cold temps of CO so I'm not sure how barrels left in the middle of nowhere near the south pole fared. The 4.0L is also not a diesel engine so ??

Maybe the engine was modified for a high ethanol blend.

Gasoline works just fine in Antarctic temperatures. Diesel gels more easily, so the Arctic Hilux was modified to run Jet-A.

BTW, due to transport costs, the fuel in Antarctica costs about $10k a drum

Im curious if they were using an additive (like prist) for aviation fuels to prevent gelling and icing.

Probably not. Basic pump gas has a very low freezing point already.
