OBX Shift Knob, embarassing question

Ok, I just bought my 05 tacoma (6-spd) used. It has an OBX Racing shift knob on it (OBX chrome fatboy), it's the optional one toyota offers. I can't get the thing off.

i unscrewed the top, which removes the bottle cap like top and the carbon sleeve... then i tried unscrewing the remaining shift knob but i feel like i'm going to break the plastic, and make it even harder to come off.

i realize the common sense approach is to simply twist it off haha..

anyone install/remove this?

i never thought i'd have to ask the forum about a shift knob.. this is humbling..

i dont think there are set screws, i think usually w/a knob that has set screws the bottom ring will unscrew down, showing the screws, this one doesn't have that.

it's hard to explain with out pictures, but it's weird.

 

twisted right off when i cranked on it.... who puts loc-tite on a shift knob??
