Yeah, you said something that I agree with and was accentuating that it was true.

If toyota makes a truck look like a prius im gonna be pissed, its bad enough they make that pile of shit and my truck is associated with it even via brand name.

yeah titans kill gas, friend has an 09 xcab 2wd and gets 17 but thats after he put a flowmaster on it

Youre right on yotas having better resale, but dodge is catching up fast, their old shit was terrible.

Toyota could put 30mpg on the Taco window sticker and everyone would be touting how great it is yet any other manufacturer is full of shit with their ratings. I have confidence you CAN get whatever they're claiming. You're obviously not going to get that all the time. Sometime I get crap mileage while on the other hand on a highway trip last summer I got 21mpg.....and that's with Duratracs and a 3" lift.

As mentioned a bigger engine won't work as hard so I'm not sure why 20 mpg is so far fetched on a full size.

    Never backpedaled at all.

I still say that no V8 full size 4X4 pickup will get 20+ MPG in mixed driving. I've had too many of them and none, ZERO, have ever even come close.

The reliability stuff with the Taco is just a bonus.

That pic that I included of the Hemi Ram mpg was the average for the duration of the drive, although at the time I was on the freeway going 55 when I took the pic.

So now it's mixed driving? What manufacturer claims over 20mpg in mixed driving on a v8 truck?

Re-read... you never stipulated MIXED driving. Obviously, mixed driving, a full sized V8 won't get great mileage. On a highway run, you can definitely get over 20 MPG with a full sized V8 4wd truck. Just because YOU couldn't do it, doesn't mean it's not possible. Just means your foot is too heavy and you're trying to justify your Tacoma purchase against a full sized truck. There are a lot of reasons to buy a Tacoma but if you're going to compare a Tacoma against a full sized truck strictly on MPG's, the Tacoma doesn't fare too well. New full sized trucks are doing much better in the MPG department these days.

Those on board computers aren't very accurate, I could get the Chebby's to say 90 mpg under the right conditions.

These types of threads make me laugh.

Why is it so hard for people to accept that for the time being at least, Ford and Dodge have surpassed Toyota with regards to power and fuel economy of their truck motors.

These threads compare our V6 with V8's with almost twice the horsepower, moving trucks almost twice the size and yet there getting comparable if not better MPG's.

As far as complexity goes, to me, our V6 with VVTI is a fairly conplex motor, it's not like we are running carbureted 22R's.

As far as reliability is concerned, we have been driving Toyota's since 1974, I think all 5 or 6 Corrollas, Camrys, 4runner and Tacomas all have had 400k + km's on them, but all these frame rust issues, rear spring TSB's and clutch pedal TSB's which existed on my 1996 Tacoma and 12 years later still exist on my 2008 Tacoma leave me wondering about Toyota quality.

Don't get me wrong, I like Toyota as much as anyone alse here, but I do think the competition has caught up. Let's hope Toyota comes up with something new in the near future.

Just traded in my 2011 gmc ext cab Z71 4x4 for a 2013 4x4 dbl cab tacoma TRD off road. The sticker on my gmc claimed 16city and 21hwy I never got better than 18 mpg but could get 18 on a regular basis my father has a 2000 model v6 ext cab 4x4 tacoma with 302,000 miles on it and he gets 21mpg now and use to get 22-23 200,000 miles ago but he drives like a paw paw. I own a 2003 ext cab DLX tacoma with a 2.4l and can get 28 mpg if I drive it easy enough. V6 tacomas have never been known for great gas mileage but will last a lifetime!!! With the quality of a Toyota I don't think many people who own them bought them for their fuel mileage

Where did anyone (myself included in the OP) specify HIGHWAY only? I added the mixed comment to clarify, not to justify.

I could get the computer to hit 99MPG on my 2004 Chevy 1500 4x4 and then hit the reset button. Take a picture at that point and you could show some pretty good numbers.

The fact remains: no truck does well in fuel economy.

I'll say it again, no V8 full size 4X4 pickup will do better than 20+ MPG in everyday "mixed" driving. And no V8 full size 4X4 pickup will do substantially better than a Tacoma in MPG. Check my posts. I never said that the Tacoma was a MPG champ. Just that the full size folks claiming outrageous MPG numbers and numbers ridiculously superior to a mid-size V6 are not accurate.
