If Toyota makes the Tacoma smaller (doubtful)...I won't buy another. I hope the next gen Tacoma is larger, about the size of the 1st gen Tundra.

Auto makers size their cars so that they grow with their families...the new Corollas are the same size as the early 2000 Camry's, Camry's are the size of yesteryears Avalons, and the Avalons are their biggest cars yet. The Tacomas will eventually get larger, and they may introduce another smaller truck...

As for the CAFE standards, everything I have read states that it will be in effect for 2017 model years. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that they just have to offer a version that meets requirements. For example in the Tacoma, the 4cyl may have to get 30mpg but the V6 won't have to.

I feel just the opposite. If the 3rd gen is bigger, I won't buy one. I'd prefer something about the size of the 1st gen, but with a big V6 or even a V8, added sound deadening material, and all the luxury amenities.

I spoke with Toyota customer service yesterday and the nice lady I talked to did inform me that the new Tacoma will be an all new redesign engines and all. She would not give specifics on a hybrid or a prerelease date but did say that the new Tacoma to be released Sep Oct this year will be all new.

So 5 months out and we haven't so much as seen any type of camo'd truck testing somewhere. Riiiiight. How cute, you thinking we're new to the auto industry. Did you join just to copy and paste that same statement into several different threads?

Tacoma fuel economy isn't all that great...and if the next gen doesn't offer a new motor +/or hybrid that offers much improved mpg's...

they will lose me and many others. reguardless of size.

there is zero reason that a new Tacoma couldn't be the size of the 1st gen Tundra and offer 25+ mpg gas...and 30-40mpg's hybrid.

the tecnology is there...the r&d funding is there...the market is hungry for it...

we will see the future soon.

This is 100% not going to happen.

Previous thread, someone who works for a parts supplier said the new Tacoma would be 2016 model year. That fits with lots of other estimates/rumors.

I'm waiting to see what the 14's will be like. If no major changes i may try & get a 13. I'd like to see some minor changes, that would encourage me to trade. Otherwise i'll stick with my 09, it's almost paid for.

    Just get the '13.

It too late in the year for there to be a "major redesign" of the '14 at this point.
The Tundra has already been revealed, and there were spy shots of the test mule a couple of months before that... and though it was touted as a completely new design, it sure looks a lot like the 2013 Tundra.

New Tacoma won't be until 2015 at the earliest... if the Tacoma remains in the lineup and isn't replaced with a new badge. 2015 will be 20 years for the model name.

That would not surprise me at all.
Like the Tacoma, the Echo was a North-America-Only model.
The overseas version was the Yaris (and was available in the multiple configurations it is here today, while the Echo was available only as a 2dr or 4dr).
The Echo was discontinued, and later replaced by the Yaris... just as the Echo replaced the Paseo, and the Paseo replaced the Tercel.

The 2nd Gen Tacoma has proven to be a solid seller (as solid as can be expected for a post-2008 economy). It would not be a stretch for Toyota to duplicate the Hilux tooling for US production.

Well there seems to be a lot of opinions. Bottom line is nobody knows for sure if they are going to do any changes. I guess we will just have to wait and see. Does anyone know the date when they first showed the 2013? Probably at an Auto Show? I guess now we can give our opinions on when they will let the 2014 cat of the bag. I am guessing Sept.
