2006 tacoma rear axle leaking seal

2006 tacoma rear axle leaking seal

I was wondering if somebody knew what the part numbers were for the rear axle.

I have a double cab, 4x4, automatic, v6, positraction, 6 bolt hubs.

The drive shaft seal is leaking on the axle. Since there is a leak I may also change the axle seals and gaskets.

A nice schematic with part numbers would be great.

are you talking about the pinion seal? after replacing my pinion seal the rearend went out soon after. keep an eye on it, to get the seal you had to buy a kit with a new bearing and crush sleeve. I ended up having to replace whole chunk from the junkyard. dealer wanted $1800. still cost be $400 with exchange plus gasket and rearend fluid. are you lifted, if you are and didn't use axle shims to keep driveshaft in alignment it could just be worn and a new seal will fix it. do not use impact wrench to remove nut.

What indeed. You can order the seal individually, you'd be hard pressed to remove that nut without an impact as well. Most people count the number of threads and return it back to that position. You'll probably want a new nut though.

Also, check for play in the pinion. Don't bother replacing the axle seals. Just the pinion seal.

Oh and did you mess up the pinion bearings preload putting it back together? Could that be why it failed?

Factory original axle seals and bearings. finally wore out.
