How well does the factory backup camera lets you judge how close you are to an object?

I ask because I've used parking sensor the whole time on my other car and it works great...I've used a car with a backup camera once and it was hard to tell how close I was to hitting the car...

I suck at parallel parking and rely heavily on my parking sensor...

Would like to hear some feedback on the stock backup camera so I know if I should install that or parking sensors...thanks!

I have no issues. Works great for hooking up to a trailer also. the bottom edge of the camera shows just a bit of your bumper.

Debadged. ARE Topper. Tailgate mods, including locking handle. BAMF LCA skids.
There are green and red lines to help judge distance. Very helpful for up-close. Not as effective for distant vision (pedestrians, cyclists, moving cars).
Be careful when coming in at an extreme angle- the corners of the bumper are closer than the mid point.

i back into my parking spot every night for class right up against a concrete wall and i can get within an inch of the wall (not that i usually do, i just like challenging myself to see how close i can get once in a while) it takes a little getting used to it and trusting it, but once you do it is a great piece of equipment

    This...

I use mine all the time and it works great for me. Distances further than 10feet or so and you start to not be able to make out objects.

I now back into parking spaces approx 90% of the time because of the rear camera. Sometimes if I'm parked in a skecthy area, I'll back up till my bumper is about an inch or two away from a wall in order to deter tail gate theft (even though I have the hose clamp).

I won't ever buy another vehicle without one now that I've had one with it! It is so nice to be able to parallel park without issue

Only thing I have ever owned that had a backup camera and sensors was my 2011 4Runner very nice feature. I am going to buy the mirror for my 09 Taco soon. Does anyone know if the mirror for our trucks have any other features in them like outside air temp or a compass. (I am talking the aftermarket ones). I like the outside temp part could care less on the compass my GPS does that.

My camera does't have the red and green lines but im ok with it, as it allows for more detail. I can back the truck to within a inch of anything. Makes it easy to hook up to a trailer. :taco:

In the last 15 years, I've had 2 "incidents". Both were gently backing into something. First was a well placed landscaping trailer that was in a parking lot, and the other was our baby sitters car in my own driveway. Both could probably been avoided with a back up camera. Now I have one on my 2010 Tacoma, and my wife's Sienna. It is a great tool to help with backing up. I still use the mirrors it along with. Great for hooking up the trailer too.

I love mine but the red and green lines have limited utility for two reasons:

    1. Green lines for edges of truck are skewed to the right because the camera is offset to the side of the tail gate handle. Not a big deal once you get used to it but the green line is over the curb when parallel parking.

    2. Red/green distance lines are for objects at ground level. Backing up against a raised truck, for example, can put you within a couple of inches of its bumper before it even appears on the camera (also due to the downlook angle of the camera).

Both of those issues are easy to get used to once you're aware of them. I'll probably never go without a camera on my future cars/trucks.

Works great. I always have a trailer ball in the receiver hitch, so it makes it even easier with the red line.

I trust mine. Took me some time. I would get out a look at first. If you tow it is the greatest thing on earth. I could not have a truck with out one.
