Went off roading for the first time

This is my first 4x4 and went off-roading for the first time this weekend, sand dunes in baja on the beach.

I feel like an idiot- first I didnt know how to fully- engage the 4x4, had no idea I had to fully depress the clutch all the way down..
And what happened was there was a ton of virabration in the shifter and bounce as I accelerated in the sand? There was a crazy beeping sound as well.












Had lots of fun, but I realized that I am a shitty driver, but the taco was great.

Yes that is a nerdy Star Wars Imperial sticker on my truck.

 

Beeping means the 4wd wasn't engaged or the traction control was on and the rear wheels were spinning too freely.

 

That beach looked familiar.

I put the a TRD badge on the grill I think it looks cool. I wanted to get a lift for more off-loading, but my driving skills are not good, so I will wait. There were lots of other trucks, a lot of them got stuck , I almost got stuck, but didn't in the loose sand.

 

You go there too? Its pretty cool, lots of sweet old trucks. kind of crazy though.

 

There's a little card in your mirror/visor in a little plastic sleeve. Read that

seems like you had a good time regardless. like other said, read the manual. engaging 4wd and 4lo, how/when to use the diff lock, etc...

Man I miss the marine Corps just don't bring your girl around the barracks she will be going into the viper den and may not escape SEMPER FI BROTHER

 

Best times and worst times, love the Corps. Easier to get a GF when you get out.

You have to start somewhere- no one was an expert on the first outing- but read the manual and know the truck and things will be a lot easier

Glad you had fun OP. Where'd you get the TRD badge? I actually like the looks of it.

 

Wheel hop and traction control. It takes a while bit read up on how to engage and use your truck.

Get an air compressor so you can air down for off roading & air back up when you're done. 10 to 15 PSI will improve your traction and a softer ride if you're on a harder surface than sand.
