loud rattle from under 2013,

Had a rock get stuck between my optional skid plate and the original skid plate. Made a metally rattle sound when i turn or start to take off. pried it out and it went away.

 

Mine does the same, and has since I drove it off the lot new a year and 17.5k miles ago, same conditions as well, definitely something in the trans (know not much about inner workings of a trans so I am not going to speculate) good to see this happens to other people as well

 

so i contacted Toyota and they made a case and asked me to bring truck in again.. i did and drove another tech around to show him the noise. he said he was going to run tests and send info to Toyota engineers. heard back the next week from corp and they said they cannot find out what it is and nothing to fix. they asked me if it was ok. i said NO. i can't file lemon law since it is not an issue where they have done "work" on it.. there is nothing they have tried to fix since they dont know what it is. i just want them to buy the truck back or let me trade it for a new one and move on.. this stinks.

 

my '13 is a noisy beast.I can't hear anything over the stereo tho.if it goes I don't worry about it.i don't care how noisy any of my equipment is,as long as it gets the job done.

 

I've pretty much given up hope on them finding my rattle. It does it just fine around my way but I go 30 miles to the dealership and it stops. I really miss the quality of my 2005 tacoma.

 

i worry because i paid for a tacoma and don't want a rattle that nobody knows why or what it is. i can make mine make the noise with the dealer mech inside the truck every time.

 

I have a 2013 Tacoma V6 4X4 that has about 2500 miles. I've had a problem with a dull rattle noise under the bed area. I just had the vehicle at the dealership for the third time for the same problem. They said they visually checked and tightened everything possible and it's still making the noise. I plan on taking the truck back again next week for the same problem. This is my first Tacoma and I spent a bunch on the long bed Limited model. It's really pissing me off that I'm having this problem and I'm starting to regret buying a Toyota. I thought they were reliable vehicles made to last?

 

I have a similar noise in my '13 6sp. I found the yoke on the rear driveshaft to have a bit of slop in it. I'm pretty sure it's coming from there as it's louder when there isn't a load on it, ie clutch pressed in, etc... It was taken in once for the noise and I was also told it was "normal". Now that I'm pretty sure I identified the source, I'll press the dealer a bit harder next time it's in.

 

My 2010 developed a rattle I couldn't trace under the hood. Kind of like a loose metal fan shroud or something. It didn't get faster when accelerating. Turns out it was the catalytic converter falling apart in side. The cat was replace under warranty, the rattle stopped.

 

I have a 2013 6 speed dblcab and I had that noise in the rear end area drove me nuts than I thought maybe since it's new the spare tire is loose so I tightened the spare tire up there was a noticeable amount of slack went for a test drive and WOW no more rattle over bumps hopes this helps guys

 

2013 dbcb 6sp manual same rattle when going over bumps and while in gear and depress clutch or while in nutural.
Had dealer replace my tranni and t-case noise is still there ...
Dealer also hooked up microphones on different spots under the truck but didn't pin point location.

I think it is a throwout bearing, but it is not covered by warranty.

So for now , everytime i put truck on service i mention that it rattles, which forces dealer to look or disregard but it is documented.

 

I have it too. Dealer says it's the transmission, "they think". This dealer does not have any 6spds on the lot so they want to change the tranny and see how it goes. I've read a lot about this and though it does seem to be "normal", I have 2 friends with same truck ('08 & '13) that do NOT make the sound. So, hard to believe it's normal.

 

I had this too - spare tire rattle / squeak. Drove me nuts. Tighten it up and see if that's it.
